It's so big, so diverse, and so much a public need in many respects (especially if we're to push public transport harder) that trying to run it for profit ends with something being screwed over. Which is basically what we're seeing now - mental ticket costs, staff getting **** every which way, cost cutting and failing services, all sacrifices on the altar of profit. Then you have Japan, where the network is fully privatised and is exemplary (you can set your watch to the bullet train’s arrival). There are clearly ways of getting both ownership systems to work well.

There are clearly ways of getting both ownership systems to work well. That isn't strictly true. Some of Japan Railways is privatised, some of it, including all freight, isn't. There are 6 JR passenger companies, 4 are privatised, 2 aren't The Infrastructure is in Public hands and before it was floated the government wiped out a shit load of debt They are also currently going through a sort of Beeching era and closing unprofitable lines. The way Japanese railways are organised is really strange as some of it is like what happened in the WIld West of America, there are smaller companies that are essentially real estate firms too and they literally develop new rail connected communities. It's not a path anyone could follow in another country.
Chindie Posted May 15, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted May 15, 2023 Japan is also helped by the fact it's rail system is focused heavily on a small number of urban systems (with Tokyo obviously the flagship by a distance), rather than the UK system which is comparatively a nightmare of national lines that occasionally break off into local systems. The only place comparative to the Japan system is London - and lo and behold that, compared to the rest of the country, works quite well.

What they did was purge the lefties under the pretence of their being a danger to the Jewish community. The racists they didn't really give a **** about. In fact they quite like the acceptable arm of racism and want to get to know them better. Because they've decided that's what wins votes. They've got the integrity of jizz laden Kleenex. Not really at all, the next two tweets in that thread Firstly you are relying on a Labour MP live tweeting from PMQs as an accurate source of his exact words and secondly in the context of the question, he's not just talking about immigration but he is highlighting it because the latest figures are due out tomorrow And really, that is nothing like the BNP even at their softest and cuddliest. Just so you can see what a BNP Immigration leaflet looks like Is that really like anything Starmer has said I'd say they were pretty distinguishable from each other.

Tbh I'm glad that victims now have a way to speak out. Whoever thought that it's okay to sexually harass people doesn't need to represent anyone. Jareth
No room in Labour for elected Mayors who like Ken Loach - Labour’s North of Tyne mayor has become embroiled in a row over an event with film director Ken Loach that was branded “hugely upsetting” for the Jewish community. Jamie Driscoll has been urged to apologise after appearing with the acclaimed ‘I, Daniel Blake’ filmmaker on stage at Newcastle’s Live Theatre last week. The criticism prompted Mr Loach to refute what he referred to as “old allegations, always rejected and re-heated from past disputes”. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/jamie-driscoll-ken-loach-labour-26527143?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar Is Ken Loach a bad guy? This sucks ass. Labour is now a party where if you are not a friend of the Jewish Labour Movement, then you are out. Regardless of how good you are at your job, and Driscoll is widely regarded as being good at his job. It's utter bollocks and a good reason not to vote for Labour again. Jareth
It's a bit ridiculous that Ken Loach who has dedicated his career to giving a voice to working class disadvantaged people is now framed as some big bad racist who a mayor of the north east cannot share a platform with. It's ludicrous and out of touch. This campaign has gone too far, the only left wing candidates we can vote for are now vetted for suitability by the Jewish Labour Movement, all they need do is disagree with a candidate and then that person cannot stand for Labour. It has all gone too far.
