Marka Ragnos Posted January 28 VT Supporter Share Posted January 28 I sometimes wonder how many English kids grew up with this sort of rhetoric and when. I first felt like it was sort of brainwashing for kids, but more benignly, it is just a very gentle entre into the need to some boundaries, isn't it? I’d have been subject to the Rev W Awdry books first in the late 60s / early 70s but the first one was published in 1945 iirc (The Three Engines). The Ringo Starr / Michael Angelis voiced TV series is a modern thing but does remain kinda faithful to the original books It’s really just of its age, Awdry was a vicar and a train nut, he wrote the stories for his son Christopher (who went on to write more titles after his dad stopped). I don’t think they were written with anything in mind other than teaching his own kid
