PieFacE Posted August 31, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 31, 2023 (edited) New Soft Play (formerly Slaves) song. Yay. I like it. Wasn't expecting Robbie Williams Edited August 31, 2023 by PieFacE

Obviously a jab at some of the entitled feedback they received over the name change.

Seat68
In their own style, I don't find it a bad cover at all.
Seat68
Very underrated Dexys track, the instrumentation and production is not the best, but the song itself is. In my opinion.
chrisp65
There’s quite a niche thing about some recent Dexys stuff, the drums are very distinct and ‘copiable’ for the rank amateur that has a kit set up in the back of the house!
Seat68
The track I posted above, Manhood, they re did it on their latest album and it does improve the production, the backing vocals are **** ghastly but a better version for me.
chrisp65
I hesitated and then didn’t buy the latest album. It doesn’t quite sound right, if that makes any sense? It’s either all been done through a laptop, or weirdly produced, or something. It just sounds a bit light and a bit synthetic. It was too much money to buy it and find out for sure. For my money, since Don't Stand Me Down the production has been at best, OK but on the whole disappointing. Now as the common denominators are Kevin Rowland and Pete Schwier I lay the blame at their feet, but as Rowland got it right prior to the reformed Dexys releases, as did Pete Schwier. I wonder why the recentish albums sound so bad.
