Designer1 Posted November 21, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted November 21, 2014 Anything by Shane Meadows. Yes he has done some crap. With the exception of Once Upon a Time in the Midlands which I admit was poor (mostly down to a lack of creative control on his part) which of his other work would you consider 'crap'? hogso
Anything by Lars Von Trier. I liked Melancholia very much, and breaking the waves was good. Otherwise, yeah there are some stinkers, so it is somewhat curious that he is apparently held in as high esteem as other contemporary autuers. Maybe it's just down to his controversy. JB
I'm probably going to get slated for this but I genuinely don't get the love for Stoker... It wasn't bad or anything and was clearly very well acted but I just thought that it didn't seem like a story worth telling. Perhaps I need to watch it again. Avatar is complete shit. The Dark Knight Rises was absolutely awful as well IMO, independent of the excellent first two films. I tried watching it a couple more times but it seemed even more incoherent, forced and plain stupid.
Xela
Schindler's List. Get out. Avengers for me - comic book shite A Clockwork Orange Transformers movies can't be overrated surely? Most people think they're shit. sorry can't agree with a clockwork orange. At the time it was groundbreaking. Now its tame! Maybe it was down to the fact I never watched it until the 90's. I just find it a bit of slog Edited November 22, 2014 by Xela

Stevo985 Posted November 24, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted November 24, 2014 recently. Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Got rave reviews… not a patch on the TV Series. Agree with that. One of the most boring films I've ever seen. You couldn't pay me to sit through that again.

useless
Alien is as old now as Double Indemity and National Velvet were when Alien was released, crazy. I've never watched it from start to finish but have seen it in bits and pieces over the years. Haven't seen Bladerunner at all, didn't realise the film itself was meant to be some sort of masterpiece.

Eames
Any films that contain any of the following: Ben Stiller Owen Wilson Adam Sandler and the entire cattleprod horror blood porn genre. eg. Insidious, Annabelle, The Saw collection. Scarface is massively overrated. Its a good film, I like, I'll watch it, but it's no masterpiece. Take out coked up Tony with his one killer line and no one cares about that film. I'm not aware of any Transformers film being overrated, they have all had the critical kicking they have deserved.
coda
Wes Anderson is a strange one. He's clearly a talented director but insists on writing quirky twee shite.
MakemineVanilla
Alien is as old now as Double Indemity and National Velvet were when Alien was released, crazy. I've never watched it from start to finish but have seen it in bits and pieces over the years. Haven't seen Bladerunner at all, didn't realise the film itself was meant to be some sort of masterpiece. Bladerunner has long been considered a 'cult' film, which is a euphemism for something or other. For me it has some appeal but turns out to be far less baffling and quirky than the novel it was supposed to be an adaptation of: Philip K. Dick's, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Like Double Indemnity (still an outstanding piece of stylish noir) I think it has to be judged within context of the time when it was made.
useless
I like Double Indemity too, I didn't mean it was overrated. I just meant that Alien is 35 years old and when Alien came out Double Indemity was 35 years old. Sorry just realised I misread, I understand now, I'll leave what I'd written though.
