I know someone who is exactly like that. The hilarious thing is that he knows nothing about watches. Once he turned up with a monstrosity he'd got from a shopping channel. It was made by someone like "Lunge & Rulex of Switzerland" who have been producing luxury watches of the highest standard for only £500 by "cutting out the middle man". It was a watch you can order from China for about £30 with an maker's name printed on the face. I was wearing a 1970s watch which I picked up for £400 a few years earlier. My watchtold the time to a reasonable accuracy but was a little slow. It told me the date as long as I remembered to amend it if the month didn't have 31 days. I had to wind it manually. His watch told his the time on Mars, his height above sea level and when it was dark it produced a light bright enough to keep ships off the rocks. One of us was wearing a watch worth £500. The other didn't realise what a sucker he'd been. Edited March 28, 2022 by Mandy Lifeboats Spelling mishsteaks

Got to be one of the ugliest fashion statements I've seen for a while. I really think you have to go back to shell suits really and I think in a few days years people will look back on them in their same way. Orrible things. Fully agree. They remind me of insulation lagging so the wearer looks like a walking immersion tank. I can only assume they are worn by people who are making the statement - 'it keeps me warm and I'll give a middle-finger salute to everyone who thinks it looks ridiculous'.

Not everybody is glued to their phone 24 hours a day, and there are lots of times when it wouldn't be appropriate/advisable to be looking at your phone to see what the time is. And phones are every bit as much of a fashion statement as a watch, if not more so, otherwise people wouldn't spend hundreds of pounts upgrading them every 18 months when the actual differences between the models is negligible. How many could have bought a Hulk for what they've been paying for their phones for the past 10 years, I know which is the better and cooler thing to do. It's the same for everything though, books, models, watches, cars, motorbikes, vinyl, erotic aids, whatever you're into is your bag and whatever is someone else's bag is theirs. The only other spot to compare this with on VT is the guys that collect vinyl records, it's something I haven't done for years, we have no choice at one time but I can dig it, in fact I'm quite envious when I see some of the pics posted on here of collections and even more so some of the hifi setups people have, just marvellous. I'll never get the things I don't get argument, if you don't get it, why read about it, or better still appreciate someone else's thing (intended), it's all good, within reason of course. p.s. Imagine the uproar if the unknowing knew how much we pay to have ******** serviced, ouch. Edited March 28, 2022 by Phil Silvers

Popular Post chrisp65
Watches are fine, I haven’t owned one in any year beginning with a 2, but that’s just me. You want big expensive watches, fill your boots. My ipad tells me the time, the radio tells me the time, my phone tells me the time. I once spent £99 on a boxed set of vinyl records. Not a single thing on them I didn’t already have in a download folder somewhere. It’s personal discretionary spending that I think probably has fairly minimal impact on the lives of others. You go for it if you like watches.

I will use it for 5 years and it’s going to be worth very little. The DB5 will cost me a lot more. But after 5 years of use it will still be worth a significant sum. It might even be worth more than I paid for it 5 years ago. I saw a DB5 at my local petrol station a few months. Just a fella abut 60, didn't look flashy at all. Probably had it ages. Got to be worth over £500k now?

theboyangel
The bbc 6music hype/fascination over Kae Tempest (and little sims for that matter - although I often like the instrumental side of her tracks) must be getting old - just not my bag but it’s unavoidable on their station and social media.
