You can't really call that a cap in the same way. He was as good as Steve McMahon, if not better, and he got his fair share of caps, as did that little snot - nosed clearing in the woods, Hodge.

Certainly not in my lifetime. Mortimer has to be in the top 10 greatest English midfielders never to have been capped. 

I agree.

I liked Cropley and Barry, too.......Houghton, Parker, Townsend, and Richardson, was decent too.

The significant bit of that to me is.....they were all different, brought different qualities to the team......Balance, that's the key.

It's like when England had Gerrard and Lampard, both great players, but too similar in style......Top teams have balance, and diversity.

A team needs many qualities to be rounded, you don't get that, when too many players are similar, no matter how good they are individually.

I know, you know that Sheepy, just saying.
