Without going over the same ground again, mcelwish didn't take over a poorer squad though? Nor was he takes to reduce the wage bill.

"This season we have taken the plunge into the reduction of wages"

Unless you're calling Alex a liar? ;)

Interesting to see constraints are still being used as an excuse.

One could argue they would be more valid for the other 11 premier league teams (or 9 if you exclude Saints/Spurs) who have received a smaller amount of transfer funding (incomings - outgoings) than Lambert.

Like Spurs - we've spent four times what they have on transfers you know!

Backs to GCSE maths for you!

Saying it and doing it are co pletely different. Again, who did he sell after this interview to reduce the wages?

Before the interview he sold downing and young but brought in given, Hutton and nzogbia, no way did he reduce the wages there.

You only have to look at the squad that McLeish was given to know that it was a much better squad than Lambert was given. Why are you on about now? That's not what's being debated.

Lambert has had about £50m to improve on the squad that Mcleish left and we're in a worse position points wise than at the same point with Mcleish.

Is that progress?

He did lots of interviews and a number of times he mentioned he had to reduce wages. Are you saying he is lying?

Saying it and doing it are completely different. Again, who did he sell after this interview to reduce the wages?

I've got to sell before I can bring anyone else in. Not reducing the wage bill, one out, one in.

The squad that he took over was far better than the squad that Lambert took over.

Lambert has since spent about £50m and the team is in a worse position points wise this season than we were under Mcleish!

Better squad??? Funny we have got rid of nearly 90% of them for...................................................... F**** all!

May 2012:

McLeish, however, believes he has been working in difficult financial circumstances and said that he deserves another chance. "This season we've taken that wee plunge into the reduction of the wages, it has hopefully helped the finances a little bit. But it has put us through the mill, there's no doubt about that," the Scot said.

So who is talking porkies, you or Alex?

Who did he sell? Its quite an easy question to answer.

I asked it before but didn't really get an answer.

Do those that think budget restraints are a valid reason for our poor permances, believe 12 points from 18 games is the best this team is capable of?

You probably didn't get an answer because it's obvious that budget restraints aren't the reason for poor form.

Because strangley enough thats what reducing the wages is. Again, saying it and actually doing it are completely different.

McLeish worked in difficult financial circumstances.  Lambert has worked in difficult financial circumstances.  Aston Villa, for the past 4 or so years, have operated in difficult financial circumstances.

And not once were excuses made for the poor performance under McLeish.

Because he was here for 1 season and hounded out of the door before a game had even been played.

Ohhh, so we sold the quality Ireland, Hesky, Collins, Warnock, Dunn, Delfonso and wait for it, our favourite.....................Bent. Though he did bag us 10 goals in 22 apperances that season, which is actually only 2 less goals that we have scored in 22 games.

There's not just one reason, there's a number of reasons and our manager is one of them.

Who did he sell? Its quite an easy question to answer.

One example would be Luke Young who was on sizeable wages.

So then is it you or Alex?

Luke young replaced by alan Hutton, yeah I'm sure we really reduced the wage on that one. Alex is that you?

Habib Beye was also released.

"But despite seting an unwanted club record of only four home wins, there were some positives to be taken from the 54-year-old's tenure at Villa Park.

The accounts, published yesterday, show that total wages fell by £14million to just under £70million in the 2011-12 season, though this still reperesents the vast majority of Villa's £80.4million turnover."

Didn't have to try and reduces the wages though :D

Yes, we sold them to reduce the wages, you know that thing that McLeish said he had a wee go at.
