The Fappening

Ok, topic created.

So, a large list of lovely ladies has been hacked and their nuddies have been posted online.  In a vain attempt to stop it, some sites, even the notourious 4chan have stopped members publishing them.

Thousands of people already have them though, including one or two here :D (not me!)

I don't even know 90% of them.

CED needs to put that article in here.

tbh it never harmed the careers of anyone else who was leaked on the web  and it will soon be forgotten about once the next set of pics turn up  .. Pam Anderson being the original and the master at making fortunes out of it

But I do wonder how many people disgusted at the phone hacking scandal have searched the web for these photo's though

Now I know people will say "hacking a dead girls phone " ( she wasn't dead at the time as far as anyone knew ) isn't the same thing  ... and yes they are right  .. but the general premise behind it all IS the same thing

I still think Apple are going to hit a for a shit load of money once the lawyers get going

from a site that mobilises so much anger about all all the privacy invasions of the NSA etc, and has a generalised spirit of libertarianism but more than happy to perve on the private hacked photos of people's intimate moments.  Excellent. Rather undermines the general outrage about illegal invasions of privacy, if the judgement is that it's really bad, except when we can see some private tits and foof. ( But this is the internet - there's shit tons of that already!! ) All people are either entitled to privacy or they're not, no picksies!

but since you're wondering, yes I've seen some of the pics  and  let's be honest it just felt creepy

It does seem very odd...... iCloud accounts hacked of very famous (technologically inept) people leads to FBI investigation.

Ebay/PayPal account hacked actual fraud commited as well as the theft of personal data. Exactly noone cares.

I'm still of this opinion:

Again I'll return to the house analogy. If your house is burgled because you are too ignorant, dim, unaware to operate the alarm system you bear some responsibilty for the fact your stuff gets nicked.

The thief is 100% culpable but this is no way is  a "system failure" on the part of the alarm company - nor is it a failure on the part of Apple. These aren't "normal" individuals who I would have a lot more sympathy with. These are high profile, celebrities whose personal life, habits and peculiarites are of interest to fans, hackers and perverts alike. They (or the people they pay to manage them) should be 100% aware of auto cloud back ups and the consequences of not storing data properly. Its part of basic existance in the 21st century.

Default position: The hacker is ALWAYS in the wrong, but if you don't protect yourself and make it easy to get hacked, you too are partly to blame.

The other surprise is the number of people who are shocked that in the privacy of their own homes, celebrities are not made up and airbrushed to ****.

I'm also sure that the distribution of none famous people's bodies and sex lives have been available on amateur websites.  The only difference is with "The Fappening" is that the peoples bodies exposed are in the public eye.

I know of a guy (a fat little shit who worked/s in O2 in Merry Hill) who downloads/takes any explicit images/videos from the phones of people who are having them repaired.

He's exactly the type of person who you'd expect to have done this type of thing.

He makes me sick just thinking about it.

There's a difference of kind, not even of degree between a government doing something and private individuals doing something.

Yes, I take that point, but it's still criminal though isn't it? people's right to privacy has still been abused. One presumes one element about being angry about the NSA is about said invasion, obviously a private hacker is not accountable to any citizenry, beyond the general breaking of a social contract that all criminals break. It's hard to take a claim that privacy is truly valued if you're more than happy to perve on others. We may well be a curious species, wired to sticking one's nose in, but it just rather undermines some of the outrage I feel.

The crackers broke the law, that's almost certain, and if caught they'll be punished.

Government actions in this area are de facto legal: even if they haven't changed the laws (possibly even retrospectively) to make it legal, the odds of anybody being punished are slim.

I've never understood the whole "Dark Web" stuff.

I know about onion and Tor etc.

Is that it though?

That's part of it, but only the surface.

Yea, it's only what he told me/showed me.  In reality he probably just got them from a porn website.

This also happened about 5/6 years ago and he might not even work there anymore.

Then there's the whole thing of "I just got them from the internet, officer".

No point.

I can't believe how many people walk round with explicit stuff of themselves/partners on their phones!

I hate that type of mythical answer.  Exactly what happens in it?  Could I do it?  How far have you gone into it?

Very likely that the bug was from the "Find my phone" app or whatever it is called considering apple has pushed out an update. For what I can gather, the person who leaked them collected them from others who have acquired them. Transactions was made via bitcoin. After this guy has enough "footage" he went on 4chan and leaked them and tried to get more money for them. So, supposedly there is more pictures out there that did not get leaked. I for one am baffled that someone actually tried to get money over there. FBI is monitoring that closely right now and probably going through catalogs and finding the responsible one.

Do have to put out the fact that putting naked pictures of yourself on a server is probably never a wise idea.........

The dark web is simply unindexed pages.

Speaking of indexed pages: /r/thefappening ;)

I've gone to level 3 blue.

When you realise going to level Neptune Omega usually means there's no coming back, you'll understand what 3 blue did to me.
