Con
well if the opponent doesn't have the ball for about 70% of the game then you really don't need top defenders true and Spain don't have any World Class defensive defenders. they are good on the ball and going forward but at the back they are a shambles. managers have figured out they can tailor their line up to be comfortable without possession and stifle the Spanish attack, and use a clone team of Jay Rodriguez to score tackle-goals. PaulC
At no point should Lambert be starting, imo. Ok as an option from the bench. But starting up front in the world cup>? No, not for me. I think he would be a more reliable performer than Rooney. He's not in the same class as Rooney. What we need is a fully fit Rooney playing at his maximum.... Con
It will be a shock when Spain are eliminated but not an unexpected one given what has happened to the Spanish teams in Europe since the last World Cup. Spain, Chile and Netherlands all in the same group. Spain might even fall at the first hurdle. He's not in the same class as Rooney. What we need is a fully fit Rooney playing at his maximum.... Agree but he only understands Scottish, remember?

AVFCforever1991
Sevilla are also in the Europa League final tonight, and it could have been an all Spanish final if the draw was different...

Spanish players in the Atletico and Real sides do not dictate the style of play of the Spanish national side. Eight players in total, 2 strikers, 2 defenders and 1 goalkeeper. Only midfielders in the squad of 30 are Koke, Juanfran and Xabi and they might not make the final cut.

TRS-T
And Torres and Villa wouldn't get in the England squad. Welbeck or Villa or Lambert or Torres. players that have done it in big games over the new Heskey or a plodding journeyman. England would bite for either of them 2 in their squad Welbeck is there for his ability to play as a wide forward as well - he can bring pace and energy from the bench. Villa is past his best. Torres or Lambert. Torres has scored 13 PL goals for Chelsea in the last two seasons. Lambert has 13 PL goals for Southampton this season alone. TRS-T
At least we are using only English players. Raheem Sterling? Is English. Just as Paul McGrath is Irish.
TRS-T
Just seen the spain 30 man provisonal squad. Really puts into perspective how bad ours is. much talent Spain have. Whichever 7 don't make their squad would walk into ours. Fixed. Spain having an amazing squad does not make our squad bad. And Torres and Villa wouldn't get in the England squad. And let's not forget that Spain's centre forward is not even Spanish - he's Brazilian. At least we are using only English players. Wasn't Sterling born in Kingston, Jamaica? Yes he was. Just as Paul McGrath and David O'Leary were born in London, England.

Yes based on what Torres has done in the Premier League this season theres no chance he'd be in the England squad. Villa I don't know!
