DelboyVilla
Villa should be in a similar position really. Biggest team between Manchester and London, and ever present in the Premier league with no serious local competition. Even hard up Everton have performed better than we have during Lerner's time? Just goes to show what a bit of knowledge can do. Lerner has truly messed up and looks likely to struggle to sell us and even recoup half his supposed investment? All this through the most lucrative time in the history of top flight English football. What a numbnut!

Biggest team between Manchester and London, and ever present in the Premier league with no serious local competition. Similar position to Barcelona? We've never been that big really. Apart from the early 80s success when was the last time we were really successful or dominant? We as fans need to accept we are just not that big a club. We could have been, but that time has passed for now.

We could have been, but that time has passed for now. It hasn't passed, we have just been run by incompetent idiots for the past 30 years. We are the only show in town (and several other towns surrounding us too) and as Risso says the catchment area is massive, with virtually no competition With the right investment we could be huge, huge I tells ya. Depends how far back you are prepared to go really, we were the first all conquering big club and we dominated football almost from it's inception until between the wars. We have never been the same since. Doesn't mean we can never reach those levels again though.

HanoiVillan
Villa should be in a similar position really. Biggest team between Manchester and London, and ever present in the Premier league with no serious local competition. People often say this, but it isn't true. There's another team, with a stadium less than 3 miles away, who have been in the PL for most of the last 15 years. There are 2 other teams, within a 15 mile radius, who have been in the top 2 divisions of English football for almost all of their history. There's another PL team between Birmingham and Manchester as well. We aren't all that attractive as a proposition from a point of view of expansion of fan base. ROTTERDAM1982
Liverpool have Everton Citeeeeh, and Ure within 20 mile radius, Arse have Spuds , chelsk and West Ham within 15 mile radius, we have Boggies and Blooose......no competition. We are the last of the potentially massive clubs, thats not bluster, or looking through rose tinted glasses, thats fact.

Most of those teams you've mentioned are much bigger than us already, ie. they don't need to expand to be attractive to new owners. London is also much bigger than the Midlands conurbation, while Liverpool and Manchester are totally distinct cities with very different cultures - Man Utd aren't competing with Liverpool or Everton for a Scouser's affections. TRO
we also have the M5 corridor right down to Exeter what folk are saying is we have just failed to capitalise largely through poor decision making and a lack of foresight.

The Fun Factory
Maybe I'm being optimistic, but We are the biggest team in the second biggest city. With a European cup winning history. Are we that much less of an attractive proposition of a club than Manchester City were? They share a smaller city than Bimingham with Man U as their neighbours. They have had a much more rocky history than us as well. Yes. Manchester City were a attractive buy due to 1-a new stadium and good support base and 2- being based in Manchester and the global brand awareness of the city due to the other lot. As lovely sounding as our name is, most people outside of Britain have no idea where Aston is. Sadly we are not as big as our location and history hint we are. We never even had a sell out season under Lerner even when we were coming 6th .More people in the city either actively dislike us (blues/baggies/wolves fans) or support one of sky 4 teams, than would come and support Villa even if we were a good side again. And that is not going to change unless something remarkable happens.
