skarroki
Not sure what's been discussed in this thread regarding Sinclair, but my mate is a Man City season ticket holder and he says that we are looking at getting Sinclair on a season long loan with the option to buy him in January for £3mil. We've also asked about Rodwell but that appears to be a complete non-mover. The stumbling block for both those players was that Man City have to meet a quota for English players in their Champions League team which they are close to not getting if the likes of the departed Lescott, Richards, Rodwell and Sinclair leave Feel weird quoting myself but he's said that 1 was likely to go so any chance we had with Sinclair is dead in the water Now Rodwell has switched. He would have been a great signing in my opinion but not for that money. What about Zaha on loan? As a gamble but then every transfer we've made in the last few years has been in a way so why not see if our coaches can get him playing? tomh621
Is Sinclair going to take a drop in wages though? I'd assume (and it's only a guess) that he's not on less than £50k/wk at Man City. definitely if he's coming here.
tomh621
£10m - how very generous! Although it is better than nothing I suppose. For me, 3 positions need a first team player in - LB - we're currently deploying any of Clark, Enda Stevens or Joe Bennett there. Hopefully 4th time lucky for PL picking one! DM - We don't really have one at the club and it would really help Delph and Westwood in midfield AM - Apart from CNZ and Grealish (who'll be playing his first season in the first team) we have no one but strikers to play out wide. Have no idea about a new LB DM - wouldn't mind us going in for Sergi Darder or Ki AM - Atsu on loan looks promising, Sinclair an option too (if rumours are to be believed) but wouldn't mind us going for Lestienne. Ki is not really a DM though, is he? No reason why he couldn't be but it could potentially be a waste of some of his other abilities. He clearly likes to carry the ball forward from midfield and use his range of passing. And although he's a big lad who can throw his weight around he's not a traditional defensive midfielder and i definitely think we need one. Would still like Ki here though. But if he does arrive here then i doubt another centre midfielder would arrive, and as you said he's not really a DM….
ForfarVillan
I'm a Dundee Utd season ticket holder and a lot of clubs are looking at our youngsters. Andy Robertson just left for Hull and I really wish Lambert had gone for him. Ryan Gauld went to Sporting Lisbon, Feyenoord are looking to bid for Nadir Ciftci and we still have a fewyoungsters highly rated. Scotland u21 captain Stuart Armstrong is my pick of the bunch (along with Robertson) He's brilliant and sadly due to us being lowly scotsmen he will leave us for a fraction of his worth. With Lambert's tight budget I'd like to see him go to Villa if he has to leave at all, It was rumoured a wee while ago that Lambert was interested in Armstrong so I'm not just rambling for the sake of it. .......Honest
VillanousOne
Telegraph are saying Randy is in Britain to give Lambert money for transfers. It's always the same amount bandied about, 10 mil, like it's the loose change in his wallet or something. Soon enough someone will then speculate if most of that will go on securing new deals for players, leaving about £50 to spend on transfers. Hope we have separate kitties for that though. I think if Tonev goes we should get someone else for that role. Agbonlahor and Weimann are allegedly strikers and many of us moaned they were being played out of position out wide last season, Tonev is much maligned by a lot of fans and I can see him being loaned out. Bacuna, I agree with but he's one of those versatile players that can play 2-3 positions. Joe Cole no longer has the legs to play out wide, I see him adopting a position behind the striker(s) So a 'specialist' winger is need IMO - (now waiting for someone to mention us releasing 45k's worth of Albrighton... )
useless
RIchardson is a winger. Really doubt we'll be playing with traditional wide men but when we do he'll be someone we can turn to.
mikeyp102
If the rumours if £10m are true (believe it when I see it), I would use it all on a good quality DM. Yes other positions need strengthening but in my eyes a proper DM who is strong and can read the game would help the whole team. FB's could go forward (which is more their strength) as they would have an extra man covering , other midfield wouldn't need to sit so deep, and cb's would have more protection. No idea who though! KitKat
What about Zaha on loan? As a gamble but then every transfer we've made in the last few years has been in a way so why not see if our coaches can get him playing? I would not mind this. We've previously seen a lot of players have very decent loan spells when out to prove something, and he definitely has a lot of talent. Just the question remains about how much he feels he's got to prove now that he's at United, but with the (sigh) LvG factor there now maybe it would be the motivation he needs? In any case he would be a step up in quality over Albrighton, although probably not a step up in work rate.
John
Garry Jacob writes in "The Times" today that our "transfer targets include bringing in at least a centre back. midfielder and winger". That would be difficult to do with "as much as £10m to spend on transfers" so I guess we would also need to be looking at loans. Sinclair seems to me to have had his mind on things other than football for too long to risk what money we may have on buying him. Wages would be an issue for anyone we try to pay £3m + for and I guess we would hope other clubs (such as Chelsea, Manchester City/United or Arsenal for example) would pay some of the wages for anyone that signs from them on loan. So many first team squad places to fill and so little money to do it with...
LockStockVilla
While there won't be many experienced midfielders falling within our price range, I wouldn't mind taking a gamble on a slightly younger player from abroad. Some decent players would be Davy Propper (Vitesse), Jordan Veretout (Nantes), or Johannes Geis (Mainz). Veretout and Geis are both particularly useful in a defensive role, with Veretout resembling Schneiderlin a bit in playing style.
bose
If we have any money to spend (doubt it) then we should use it to get one or max two quality player(s) in not a few mediocre ones. Edited August 6, 2014 by bose

bose
If the trouble is wages then we can just about forget Premier League players coming here. Maybe Lambert can find another gem like Okore or Benteke in one of the lesser leagues? Benteke wasn't on that much when he came here was he? There are players in the Eredivisie and Belgium that are better than what we have and they wouldn't command extremely high wages.
