sne
Samaras A guy who was moved out wide as he couldn't score goals. In no way does he have any attributes to play wide, he was simply a striker who couldn't score goals. That does sound like the type of player Lambert favours, but we do have a few of those here already. I kinda think he would work for a team like us playing the type of anti-football we do. He's a pretty decent targetman so we'd have another tall guy for Guzan to "aim" at, and he might score the odd corner or two. Might be able to steal a win while sitting back hoping the clock will run down. Also, he has a beard... Edited June 30, 2014 by sne
HanoiVillan
Samaras on a free, anyone think he could do a job for us? I've heard there's some light gardening that needs doing.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
If he was 20, he could be reinvented into a half-decent midfielder. His work rate, tackling and passing are all sound. Bit late for that now.
rodders0223
Why do people think he has a workrate? It is because of his performances at this world cup, because he has sleep walked his way through the SPL the last few years, occasionally putting in a shift away in a CL game. It is similar for Bryan Ruiz of Costa Rica, I never saw him once work as hard as he has done in every game this tournament. Nice to know they can put it in for their country, but not the teams that pay their wages.
GREAT_BEARD_OF_ZEUS
^^^ Agree. Makes it even more confounding that it's pretty much the opposite scenario with the England team.

Czechlad
I think a few of the American players would be good buys. They'd be cheap to purchase and probably be on quite low wages. Besler, Zusi or maybe Gonzalez might be worth taking a chance on.
AValon
Why do people think he has a workrate? Exactly. A donkey has a considerable workrate, but would you buy one over a racehorse? Although, knowing Lambert........

abdomlahor
Samaras wouldn't be that bad on a free to be honest. He'd be more effective in home games than Gabby is.
thabucks
I'm surprised only Vlaar & Bent have been speculatively linked with a move away. Given Delphs performances at times last year and his contract situation I would of thought they would of been a link to a move away by now. Same with Guzan. Still time I know. Cue headlines tomorrow Spurs sign 11th centre midfielder Delph for £4 mill

Besler, Zusi or maybe Gonzalez might be worth taking a chance on. Gonzalez would be Zat Knight v2. Good in the air and at clearances, but just doesn't have the pace and possibly worse on the ball than Baker. I'd be looking at Deandre Yedlin. 20, super raw, but has pace to burn, some trickery and is very aggressive, can cover the wing or right back, though probably not ready to defend in this league. He is remarkably good at getting in behind defenses and cutting it back. Alejandro Bedoya *might* be able to make the step up, as well. He's been steadily improving year after year, would be roughly comparable to Hoolahan, imo, but younger and with more physical presence. Johansson (after a bit of bulking up) would probably be decent option up front if we were to play to his strengths, but I don't think we would (or even could, at the moment, as we don't have anybody to play through balls or proper wide men).
