Woody1000
I think we'd piss it to be honest. Our young players would cut it at that level and the best players outside of the prem would jump at the chance to play for us. Gabby would probably score a shit load at that level. Look how players like Jason Roberts have done at that level. If we went down I just hope Lambert is sacked. If we go down I want to be able to fully be behind the team and I just couldn't be if he was still manager. This is pretty much my view too. Although I would say I'm probably slightly more behind PL than yourself at this present time, I could not support him in any way if he took us down. You don't have to get behind the manager. I agree that Lambert should be sacked if we go down, but only because I wouldn't have much faith in him bringing us back up. I already don't rate him so why would i want him around if he relegates us. I'd just want a clean start to get fully behind who came in. I wasn't asking why you wouldn't want him around, that much is pretty obvious, I just would've thought you'd want him gone because you didn't think he was a good manager. You don't have to get behind the manager to get behind the team. I don't know what your point is or if you disagreed with what I originally said. It seems like you want to just find some sort of disagreement.

At the end of the day, why should the manager stop you from fully supporting your team? I wasn't aware that I wasn't allowed to question parts of your posts. Mantis
You can do what you want. So why can't you fully support the team when it's being managed by someone you don't like? I just find it odd. You support the team not the manager. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mantis
The Fun Factory
I am not sure how the Trinity Upper would cope with it. Mothballs would be in short supply. Edited February 26, 2014 by The Fun Factory

trekka Posted February 27, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted February 27, 2014 We will be buggered if we ever dropped down. Our finances are such that we are cutting costs as it is. Remove tv money, include the inevitable reduction in gate receipts, merchandise and the potential to never increase it again means we will just simply stagnate. Forget about the days of trying to get £40k earners off of our books, it will be more like anybody above earning £20k. After a few years, the parachute payments will stop and things will stagnate further.
Tayls
You have to look at teams like West Brom & West Ham and wonder how they have managed to get relegated and then come back up again. They seemed to be able to cope with it? Why wouldn't we be able to do that? Ultimately losing all the dross from the team would be great, but losing players like Benteke and Vlaar (probably on the cheap) would be painful. I just think we would be able to do it in one season and we might be able to attract a couple of good players along the way. But the question remains, will we survive this season or is relegation looking more and more likely? Edited February 27, 2014 by Tayls
myko
In the premier league era, would we be the biggest team to ever go down? Or is that me seeing things through a claret and blue tinted glass? Stadium wise, we'd be the biggest club to go down surely? (I know that doesn't mean much but still)

Almost 10,000 more seats in their stadium. Yeah, Newcastle are the biggest club to have got relegated from the Premier League - closely followed IMO) by Leeds and Forest (for their history). In a different context, AVFC would be the biggest (IMO) club who were original 1992 Premier League members to get relegated if it happened. History books looking at Man City as they are now, might pervert themselves and say that City getting down to League 1 was probably the biggest relegation. But at the time of their relegations - were they 'bigger' than us than we are now? In terms of history, deffo not.

VillaChris
If we went down I think we'd be losing play off finalists, that sounds about right for us. It would be a completely different squad to what we have now anyway.
villabromsgrove
What's in a name? The AVFC that finished 6th three seasons running 2008/9/10 was a potentially "Big Team." If that team had been relegated in 2011 it would have been a huge story. Lerner/Faulkner have transformed us into a media joke team and club in the past three years, so if Villa are relegated this season there will be a few sniggers but it will be seen as no big deal. The Premiership will carry on without us, spending the kind of absurd money that is necessary to be a member of this very exclusive establishment. Lerner has tried to remain a member of this exclusive club while not being prepared to pay the membership fees. I think the Premiership bouncers might be about to escort Randy from the premises.
