P3te
Thought this might be a fun distraction from the negativity and pie jokes! You get to pick any single moment or event in Villa's history and change it, following the change with the knock on effects for the better or worse. I'll start: August 9, 2009: Darren Bent After looking for a clinical finisher to round out his promising Villa squad, Martin O'Neill persuades owner Randy Lerner to dip his hand into his pocket one final time to complete the puzzle with the signing of Darren Bent from Tottenham Hotspur, just pipping Sunderland for the player with a last gasp bid. Fed by Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, and forming a lethal partnership with John Carew, Bent propels Villa into the Champions League for the first time with a third place finish. The income from the new found Champions League football sees Lerner continuing to back his manager despite finishing 3rd in their group in 2010. A 4th place finish follows at the end of the season as Villa cement themselves as one of England's top 4, and the club scrapes through to the group stages once more, again finishing third. Reinforcements follow in the summer of 2011 as O'Neill continues to scoop up the cream of English talent, with Daniel Sturridge the latest signing, replacing John Carew and Villa's academy graduates continuing to shine as they break into the side. However a 5th place finish sees O'Neill resign at the end of the season, before Roberto Martinez takes up the reigns for a new dawn of silky continental-style football at B6

Laursen&Mellberg
2009 Gareth Barry leaves AVFC for a lucrative contract at Man City after 11 years of fine service. The fans are upset to see him go, but understand his ambitions and give him an understanding and gracious farewell. 2013 Despite being instrumental in their historic league win, Gareth Barry finds himself on the fringes of an all-star Man City team. His former club are crying out for someone with his experience and ability in Midfield. Everton come in with a loan offer, but instead he comes back to Villa Park to boss the midfield and pay back the fans who treated him so well. Cue MELT DOWN ... Lock the thread. Should have broke the bank and bought Robben at Real Madrid. He was definitely available. We were third and looking good with a 433 tactic. Young on one side Robben on the other ( tasty). Instead he bought Heskey and went back to
John
In 1982/83 we add quality players to the team that were champions of Europe (who would not have wanted to join us back then?) and our then chairman does not appoint Graham Turner in 84 with a view to breaking up the team that had won the league & EC with a view to cutting costs and removing the players that had done so much in his absence which led to relegation in 3 years. We really could have kicked on in the 80s had we showed some ambition!

It's 2010 and we've just finished just 6 points off CL, we add some more quality players in the summer to help push to that next level...... Or a certain owner decides he'd rather start break up that team with a view to cutting costs and removing the players that had helped us finish 6th which may lead to relegation in 4 years lol. Could of really kicked on in the 10's had we showed some ambition!

I think you might have missed the point of the thread, possibly on purpose to have another pop at Lambert. There's about 72578292 other threads for that. The instructions for this one are in the OP. True, however, had we got that top 4.... the extra income from CL is pretty huge so would probably cover that. Don't know how Tottenham haven't got the same issue as us as they seem to have spent ridiculous sums over the past few seasons and also failed in their attempts so far to get CL. mikeyp102
Yep think it has to be signing a goal scorer (probably bent) instead of Heskey. Think that would have got us top four and who knows what would've happened then
