CarewsEyebrowDesigner
The only criteria I have is 1.) I've listened to it more than once, with each listen bringing something new and 2.) I can listen to it start to finish, meaning the album works as a whole, e.g. no Arcade Fire or Nick Cave, despite them being very good, both had a few very weak songs. So. Fields of Reeds - These New Puritans - (very Talk Talk, and therefore excellent). Yeezus - Kanye West - (there are so many reasons to hate it, but that's why I love it). Immunity - Jon Hopkins - (sublime) Overgrown - James Blake - (infinitely better second album) Once I Was An Eagle - Laura Marling - (best album by her for a country mile, hints of Joni Mitchell which is always good) m b v - My Bloody Valentine - (nothing to be said) Modern Vampires of the City - Vampire Weekend - (so lyrically dense it rewards further listens) Factory Floor - Factory Floor - (can't describe it adequately) Amok - Atoms For Peace - (surprised me, this. I listen to it more than most on this list) Who Is William Onyeabor? - William Onyeabor - (discovery of the year, incredibly good) Trouble Will Find Me - The National - (the album with which I finally 'got' The National, and it's really quite good) That'll do. I've no doubt forgot a tonne because it really has been a great year. Edited December 12, 2013 by CarewsEyebrowDesigner
PieFacE Posted December 11, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 11, 2013 This year has been brilliant, so many top class albums released. QotSA - Like Clockwork Bloc Party - Four (real return to form that one) Nick Cave - Push the Sky Away Ghost - Infestissumam (probably top of the list for me) Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks Black Angels - Indigo Meadow Carcass - Surgical Steel Jacco Gardner - Cabinet of Curiosities Agnes Obel - Aventine Mark Lanegan - Imitations Machinedrum - Vapor City Volcano Choir - Repave Chelsea Wolfe - Pain is Beauty Gary Numan - Splinter Deafheaven - Sunbather F**k Buttons - Slow Focus Sigur Ros - Kveikur Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City Ghostface Killah - Twelve Reasons to Die Tomahawk - Oddfellows Soulfly - Savages That's just a small selection. I did not know that was out?!? *logs into Amazon*

CarewsEyebrowDesigner
If you want a list that will cost you hours of your life and possibly half your savings, then go no further than The Quietus Fast becoming one of my favourite websites.

8pints
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KzimexE-NE The music doesn't start until four minutes and fifty three seconds on this video. I get lost in this album, puts me in a trance, some proper Derren Brown hypnosis feeling.

chrisp65
ooooh, I knew I'd forgotten one, Chatma, by Tamikrest it's a little bit 'more of the same' but when the same is excellent, that don't matter those funky Tuareg choons

chrisp65
I've got a bad feeling about 2014. The office is relocating to within walking distance of an actual record shop. Financial disaster looms.
