White? Wealthy? Male?

im 2 of those things and my attempts to host a music award show for my demographic keeps on getting shot down, being wealthy might change all of that

Music Of Wealthy Origins awards, got a ring to it

lot of 70's prog groups represented at that do

This isn't meant to stir up trouble, it isn't meant to cause silly shouting matches. Though I can see how we might get there within three posts.

It's hopefully going to provide interesting links to lots of thought provoking pieces on what it is to be you / me / us and how we all perceive the world around us.

Anybody contributing must agree that they will join in a group hug once the topic has run it's course, as we are all one love.

So, if you had to be one, but only one, of these things, which would it be. Which would give you the best life chances?

WHITE?

WEALTHY?

MALE?

My first guess, and I'm open to having my opinion changed, is that wealthy is the best option here.

Why no female option?

because I'm in charge

because nobody has argued over the last couple of days that being female gave you priviledge, the link to the document by the 80's american feminist triggered the thread, she felt being white gave you an advantage as you could live where you liked and socialise where you wanted. I felt it was money that was the root cause not a penis and skin tone.

Well being white and male and in terms of the world wealthy idont know. All these things (including not ever really being poor) have made me who I am. Thus far I've lead a comfortable life. A tough question to answer because I like being all 3( even though it's not particularly politically correct to say you like or even proud to be white).

I think, rather controversially probably, that one of the biggest obstacles black people face these days is their own preconception that the world has it in for them.

Having come across some of the US right wingers ranting about Obama I think they might have a point sometimes.

(But not always.)

When it comes to life chances, being a black male is the worst possible situation.

Bad news is my Dada will be upset.

White female is best by a long way.

Good news is Mammy will be delighted.

But then Obama is a shit president, and has only been voted in (twice) because he is black. (Okay, maybe the second time because there was no competition as well)

I would venture that there are far better examples of black presidents who are good men than Obama, including our recently departed friend of the world.

without wanting to derail the thread, with my admittedly limited knowledge of yank politics, he's not actually that bad, he has his hands tied by the economic problems he inherited and the fact that the senate couldnt agree on the colour of grass at the moment meaning nothing he tries to do can get passed, i dont think he'll be remembered as a shit president but more as a president that didnt really do anything

something tells me levi will no doubt be able to provide a long, more accurate and bamboozling response

I'm disappointed with him for the opposite reasons to the US right wingers, but the thing is that the ranting against him started from day 1.

And I don't agree that he was voted in because he's black. It would have helped by guaranteeing him the votes of large numbers of blacks, sure, but he was by far the better candidate the second time around, and overall the better on the first time around. Brilliant speaker too. I know this thread isn't about him, but my point is that some people seem to have had it in for him because of his colour.

Equal rights has been won, the strive for equal opportunities has been left to hope and chance. Clearly poverty plays a large part in that for both black and white, I'm just surprised that such a movement dissipated so quickly.

That said, the women's rights movement ended in much the same way, with women still glued to the stove. We're watching that change right before our very eyes. Perhaps it's just the process.

I stand by my assertion in another thread that by not viewing people of a different race or sex as hard done by we stand a chance of changing the attitude for good.

Agree. The whole thing does need de-issuifying. Far too much hysteria now that general acceptance of equality has been achieved. Wait, I'm kindof arguing against myself now. Never mind, at least there's only one winner :)

Ha!

I do agree that there are certain groups of people, on both sides of the fence might I add, that are so set in their ways that the only way for real change is to wait for them to die off. In the meanwhile people like us are free to set the tone.

I am 2 and a half of these already so I'm so close to the full set.

So I guess I choose 'white' and then I have each one covered?
