dakid007
I know we aren't chelsea but we should play 2 up front to occupy there cbs as teams find it easy playing a central striker if no one is making runs behind Guzan Bacuna vlaar Clark Luna Albrighton Westwood Sylla delph Gabby benteke Edited December 2, 2013 by dakid007
bose
Southampton have hit a rough patch having lost their last two games (albeit vs Chelsea and Arsenal) and have only won 2 games in their past seven matches. We'll get one more day to rest than them and they are missing Boruc in goal (don't know if that is good news though given his unpredictability!). It's just a matter of time before our front three starting scoring again. Hopefully Wednesday is the day.

AValon
Don't see us getting much joy from this game. We do travel well, but we also ride our luck against poor finishing. Soton can finish. If we're fortunate, we may get a draw, but would'nt be surprised to lose by two or three.
villaglint
Is it injury to to his hip flexor or brain that's caused this dip HH? In your opinion of course
PieFacE Posted December 2, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) Think the time might have come to drop/rest Benteke. Has been poor for weeks now and his workrate hasn't been good enough. I know he is quality but he is currently miles off it and maybe a rest/kick up the backside might just get him back to the Benteke of old! I think that's needed too. He either needs time out to sort his head out, or time out to get fully fit. I hope it's the latter to be honest. If his head isn't in the right place that's bad news for us. Strangely I had a dream last night that we got a penalty and Benteke was kicking the ball to all other players to take it as he didn't want too. In the end all the players kept giving him the ball back so he can get a goal. Anyway, Bannan ended up putting the ball on the spot and Benteke missed the penalty. I guess my sub-concious thinks he isn't fit and has confidence issues. Edited December 2, 2013 by PieFacE
samjp26
Don't think he is 100 per cent fit but sometimes being dropped can also force a response. I'd say maybe a bit of both. Only in my opinion of course Do you think it's likely Lambert would drop him though? Personally, I think playing him literally as soon as he was available speaks volumes and I can't see him being given a rest myself, you know more than any of us though! If he doesn't play both games this week then he'll at least play one, not sure which I'd prefer him to play in though. mikeyp102
I would drop the beast but can't see it happening. Then again watching motd last night showed southampton struggling to contain 442, but surely that will be looked at in their training. I actually think it will be the same starting line up as Saturday. Away from home this is normally affective, but we need CB to up his game, as without him holding up the ball the counter attack won't work

Ghost_of_Pongo_Waring
I think it'll be a narrow defeat but I really really hope we stuff them I still haven't forgiven them about being robbed in the League Cup years ago down there, mid 80's? It absolutely chucked down all night. We were herded off the train straight into the ground and they hadn't put any lights on, so we spent a good half hour getting soaked in the dark. One of their players, standing in the back of the goal, headed the ball out and it wasn't given. The goal line had been washed away and the ref 'wasn't sure' if it had crossed the line, that wasn't there, even though the player had his back literally touching the back of the net. Surprisingly they repainted the line for the second half. If I remember right three players were sent off. Mark Dennis and some other knob for them & Psycho Evans for us. Then to round off a truly miserable evening we were 'escorted' back to the train station and left outside waiting for about forty minutes for our train to come in. I'd had to rush straight from work to get there and hadn't had anything to eat and some Policeman threatened to arrest me for wanting to walk a couple of hundred yards to a chippy to get a bag of chips. Then to really rub salt in the wounds when we were finally allowed to enter the station I got to the snack bar, finally got to the front of the queue and ordered a pizza. There was about 20 seconds left on the timer and the train was about to leave. The woman behind the counter wouldn't give me the pizza til it was done so I had to leave it and just managed to get on the train literally as it started to move away and I'm bloody sure as I jumped through the train doors I heard that sodding microwave go 'bing'. Cold, drenched, starving, robbed and some sod ended up with my pizza. I wouldn't be surprised if it was that Policeman. Apart from that it was a good day.
PaulC
I reckon Benteke will be axed for Kozak - defend from the front - going to be tough to get anything from this....im going 2-0 saints.... Lambert has hinted as such
BOF Posted December 2, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 2, 2013 I reckon Benteke will be axed for Kozak - defend from the front - going to be tough to get anything from this....im going 2-0 saints.... Lambert has hinted as suchWhere? His most recent comments suggest he's not going to."Everyone has times when they find it hard. That's tough because then you have to make a decision, do you bring him off, do you start him?"But you're doing it for the benefit of him as well. He'll come through it."It's important to try and keep him up. You don't chastise him, he's my player and you pick them up."That's the way I try and do it. I'm pretty sure his team-mates will try and do it."When you set yourself that standard, and it was an extraordinary standard, if you even blip out of it then it can be really noticeable."Deciding to sub him wasn't a hard decision. You make a decision for the good of the team and the club, he wasn't up to scratch in the way that he normally is. I decided that was it."
Tayls
Midweek game, against a side that is doing pretty well for themselves, although they have lost two in a row now. Electric Avenue
Anybody think gabby can do a job on his own upfront Really prefer him out wide with some pitch to run at. I think Kozak and Weimann may work as a top 2 or Helenius / Weimann. There's also Burke who needs to be given a go soon instead of Bowery .
