I mean, I am drunk at the time so it provides a catalyst. Oh you've reminded me of another song that's made me a bit teary a few times, my fave song by the Manics and one of my fave songs by anyone: Small Black Flowers That Grow in the Sky. So beautiful and so sad. Steel string acoustic with alternative tuning. And a harp. It's about a big cat trapped in its little enclosure in a zoo. And when I was 15 and swamped in unrequited "first love," it wasn't just a song -- it was instantly playable catharsis. I swear I played it twice a day for a year. Kind of embarrassing, I know. And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blueHey my baby, don't you know our love is true?I've been so far from here, far from your loving armsNow I'm back againAnd babe, it's gonna work out fine Can't you feel our souls ignite?Shedding ever-changing coloursIn the darkness of the fading nightLike the river joins the oceanAs the germ in a seed growsWe have finally been freed to get back home There's an angel standing in the sunAnd he's crying with a loud voice"This is the supper of the mighty one"Lord of Lords, King of KingsHas returned to lead his children homeTo take them to the new Jerusalem Edited August 18, 2023 by Marka Ragnos
jackbauer24
Most people on this site have far more nuanced tastes and are music specialists and know all those random bands I've never heard of. There are lots of songs that might trigger me personally for a variety of reasons but this relatively recent song seems to make everyone shed a tear when they listen to it; from friends to family and across age ranges. Why? Well it's about a son facing up to the thought of losing his father and everyone can empathise with that; 2

luckyeddie
Ironically it is Crying by Don McLean. I don't get emotional, but it always reminds me of Only Fools and Horses, and makes me cry with laughter To the Moon & Back by Savage Garden, does do it for me though

Marka Ragnos Posted August 25, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2023 Always gets me. Corny AF but there you go. The 70s leisure suit, the haircut, the incredibly weak voice --- it also all makes me cry because the quality of the song shows how all the garbage that goes along with celebrity doesn't matter if you have the songs. Which Tom T. Hall did. Every man I knew of a certain age had that same haircut at around 1975 or so ... my dad, David Soul, all my Birmingham uncles, etc.

Not even sure why, perhaps nostalgia, perhaps their intent. Whole lot of love, Your man loves you honey and Time takes care of a few things.
mjmooney Posted August 26, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 26, 2023 Hmmm. Well, if we're doing maudlin country songs about old people, I'd go with this one.
Marka Ragnos Posted September 15, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted September 15, 2023 (edited) Oh, jeez, this one with this performance. Can't ever make it past 2 minutes without weeping ... plus, you see a couple artists who have recently died, so that makes it ever worse (or better?).
