villa4europe
I thought the stadium Holland played in was beautiful from the outside, bit bland on the inside, the roof design was stunning Looked it up and as I've said before with all these deaths and worker conditions it's an international construction issue where they should know better, it was built by Tekfen, turkeys number one construction contractor, they know better
Popular Post AJ
The following is an unsponsored rant from an angry peasant. I remember about 12 years ago, before the announcement of the host for the 2022 world cup. My country was in for it, and I had a somewhat quiet confidence. We had the Olympics 10 years ago, and it was quite a success. We had a budding football league that could use the leg up from hosting a World Cup. Our infrastructure was ready and capable, and we were a country that people wanted to visit. If we didn't get it, no worries. Japan, South Korea and the USA were also capable of putting on a great tournament, so if we lost to them, no big deal. But Qatar? WTF?! Didn't see that coming. The obvious questions and suspicions arose. This was well before the raising of worker deaths, and the focus on their attitudes towards gays. How can such a small country, with very little football background, with a hostile weather environment host a major international tournament? Something stinks here. As time went by, obvious suspicions became fact. Thiefa had sold the World Cup. I am not really that angry with Qatar. I am sure alot of the people are very nice, and that there is alot of beauty there. As for the issues people have with their customs and laws, they have been around longer than before they were awarded the Cup. Instead, my anger is directed at Thiefa. As for everyone else, where were they 5 or 10 years ago? Why have they decided to get upset about Qatar's laws and attitudes during the countdown to the Cup? People are saying if teams are so offended by Qatar, why don't they boycott the tournament? Simple. Because it's too f***ing late now! Footballers are going to football. The penultimate of playing any sport is to play on the biggest stage possible. Regardless of whether it is in Qatar, Palau, or even in the Antarctic, the players are going to have reservations, but they will still play. If a national team was serious about boycotting the World Cup, then they wouldn't have bothered trying to qualify. So, here I am. I am not watching the games. The only stuff about the World Cup I am getting is from my news feeds and the lovely people on Villa Talk. Despite everything I have moaned about so far, there is something else that is pissing me off even more. Six more weeks. A six week long " commercial break" until I can continue watching the ongoing saga of Villa's season. Will Unai make Villa a force? Who is coming in in January? If Chelsea come in for Bailey, will we tell them to f*** off? Where will we finish? If we do well, will Danny Murphy do everyone a favour and throw himself out of a window into traffic? Those answers are going to have to wait. If you have bothered to read all this, then wow, I doff my imaginary hat to you. Well done and thanks. This is the longest post i have written, and I think I need a lie down now. Rant over.
Genie
official attendances at 2 games have been above the official capacity of the stadiums, and that’s with loads of empty seats

Zhan_Zhuang
Yeah, fifa don't care and neither do Qatar. I like football so I'm watching it, I've also spent a bit of time in Doha in the past so that also swings it for me.

I'd love Australia to get the World cup one day, perfect destination for growing the game and tourism so by Fifa logic you'll get it just after North Korea in 2070.... That said you have the Women's world cup next summer and that's quickly grown into a major event in its own right.

Very true, and I care even less about Fifa. Just my personal line in the sand and as per your pic yesterday, I'm going full vegan on this one. I remember 82 but I count 86 as my first WC and this is the first no show on my part. Russia almost did it but this did.

AJ
2 minutes ago, Zatman said: Australia time zone is probably stopping them getting it That may be an issue. Another issue is that during June and July, the major stadiums in the big cities are in use by the AFL and NRL. A compromise would need to be reached, but that shouldn't be too hard as alot of Cup games would be played during the midweek.

VillaChris
6 minutes ago, Zatman said: Australia time zone is probably stopping them getting it Isn't it only about 7-8 hours time difference to Perth and even Melbourne? It would just be similar to Japan/Korea. Half 12 would be the prime time game. Infact given games in this are kicking off at 10pm local time you could probably sneak in a 2pm game to stretch a bit more into a european afternoon. Not ideal though given it would be their winter. Hopefully next summer will go brilliantly and Fifa will wake up a bit. Uruguay/Argentina/Chile in 2030 and then Australia a cycle or two later would restore some credibility in terms of locations. On that the 2 games I saw from our Australian tour the pitches were in poor condition so not sure if that was also to do with the weather
Genie
There’s a thousand reasons why Qatar shouldn’t have it, Australia’s time zone is nothing in comparison.
