You're still young in career terms Jim. If you aren't happy then I'd definitely have a good think about a career move. With the current climate it's never going to be easy, but think about the long term.
There's not many perfect jobs, but your happiness and health should always come first imo.
I actually thought that Penn's character killed himself on the bridge. The 'beach' and the elevator, both lead to me believing he was getting acceptance from his family for ending his life. You could probably tie some meaning to water (nature) continuosly flowing under the bridge (man made).
Only seen it once, but wasn't there a bridge in an earlier scene? Maybe that ties in too but as Malick mostly leaves his movies open for individual interpretation it could mean quite a few different things.
Darkly comic horror movie.
I'm pretty certain it's destined to become a cult classic, due to it's mixture of OTT gore, jet black humour and cast (when Traci Lords is cast as a mother, and John Waters as a psychiatrist you know it's not going to be mainstream).
I loved it, but it certainly won't be for everyone.
I've done similar to that a few times before.
The best one was when I stood up and blocked the view of a couple of chatty plebs sat in the seat behind me who had done nothing but gab all the way through the first twenty minutes of a movie. After about 10 seconds one of them said 'can you sit down? I can't see the screen' to which I replied 'Yeah, of course mate - the second you shut the **** up.' Apart from a bit of glowering and muttering from them they were quiet as the grave after that.
Listened to that yesterday. I liked half of it half as well as I should like and I liked less than half of it as well as it deserved.
It was OK. Think I need to give it a few more plays.
Just back from Argo and it's easily one of my movies of the year. Affleck really is getting the hang of this directing malarky. He's building up quite the portfolio of excellent work.
