  1. This is England was utterly superb tonight. The scene in the bed with Lol and Woody was sublime.
  2. Just watched it. Loved it! So much for a slow start
  3. Among a sea of brilliance, this still stands out as one of their best for me. Bloody love it.
  4. I think the Pianist is a way better movie. But then again Polanski > Spielberg.
  5. Why does Rupert the Bear wear checked trousers? Because he's a word removed.
  6. Didn't like The Way Way Back that much. Found it way too formulaic and the excellent cast deserved a much better script. Boyhood is a masterpiece.
  7. How about some of them 'French Fried Taters' ?
  8. Can't believe I forgot Boyhood. /Rookie
  9. More so than Interview with a Vampire No, it's not really a coming of age, but it has the same indie sensibilities as some the others that Omar likes so I included it anyway.
  10. Submarine 500 Days of Summer Safety not Guaranteed Moonrise Kingdom Ginger and Rosa My Brother the Devil Borrowed Time We are the Best Fill the Void Squid and the Whale Still Walking The Wackness Joe Mud Perks of being a Wallflower Lars and the Real Girl Radio Days I Wish The Lookout Terri Garden State King of California Mysterious Skin* *(although it's not exactly uplifting, and is a very hard watch but it's also completely fantastic)
  11. The Mountain Shadow (sequel to Shantaram) comes out in October. Very much at the top of my must read list.
  12. I watched this on Netflix last night after reading a wealth of positive reviews. If you like the horror genre then do yourself a favour, don't read anything about it and then watch it. I thought it was fantastic.
  13. For me, the butter takes away from the taste of the bacon and brown sauce combo. I have tried it with butter (or margarine) a couple of times but it just doesn't compare to the taste of without. I also like a nice 'dipper' sometimes (the bread dipped in the bacon fat after the bacon is removed) so again the butter wouldn't work there. I'm also wondering if location plays a part? As far as I can remember, every cafe, sandwich van etc around these here parts serve the breakfast sandwiches without butter or margarine unless specifically asked. I can never, ever remember my mom making me a breakfast sandwich with butter on so again, that's probably hard wired. But really at the end of the day, it just doesn't taste as good to me and that's what it's all about
  14. Lapal knows Butter on a breakfast sandwich? You're broken if you do that
  15. Massively disappointed in the first episode. Seemed incredibly forced. Hopefully it'll improve.
  16. Just back from Legend and have to say i'm massively disappointed. Disjointed story, tonally very uneven and around half an hour too long. Hardy's performance was very odd indeed. His Reggie was sublime, very well nuanced and totally believable. In fact the sort of thing we've come to expect from him. However, the less said about his Ronnie the better. Absolutely laughable (literally), totally OTT with all the sublety of a hammer blow to the back of the head. Have to say I much prefer the 'Spandau Ballet' version, even though that wasn't without faults, at least it had the force of Billie Whitelaw's character through it's centre to drive it on and give it a narrative focus. There was also a lack of acting weight around the two main characters in the newer version. It severely needed a Steven Berkoff or Tom Bell. Even though Eccleston and Thewlis are both great actors, they were both woefully underused. Such a shame, there's a good movie in there somewhere but this was just a letdown.
  17. Honestly, if they somehow manage to do the book justice then it'll be one of the best films ever. It'll also have to be about 4 hours long at a minimum It's my favourite book of all time, so the **** had better do it justice
  18. I swear i've seen that somewhere before... ...like really recently...
  19. As I said earlier in the thread, i just hope they don't **** up what for me is the best series of graphic novels of all time.
  20. the one in the park with the young lady? Yes, that's the one. Reading it made me a little bit queasy if i'm honest.
  21. Basing it on Porno. There's a scene in that book involving Spud which I very much doubt will be in the film...
  22. Today I have been mostly getting booked up for Ghost at the Institute in December and my annual trip to see the mighty Half Man Half Biscuit (at the Robin 2 again in December). Tonight I shall mostly be watching British Sea Power at a tiny and utterly superb venue in Stourbridge.
