For £100m, I’d absolutely sell him.

Just a bit more and I'm on board to. He has only played over 75% of available games once in the past 3 seasons.

If we broke our transfer record by £40 million and that player had an injury history like that we would all be pissed.

If City want to shatter the transfer record for Jack then Villa has to at least listen.

Every day that this drags out, the club's hands get tied tighter if he ends up leaving. We'd really have to scramble to make up for the loss unless we have replacements lined up to exclusive contingency deals.

The only place it drags out is on Twitter, internet forums and reddit.  I promise you the club is not in a panic over the words of a Reddit ITK.  Just typing that sentence makes me 😂

Whether he stay or goes our recruiting team has a plan I promise. They have nailed every window since the NSWE takeover.

Bloke needs a rest. No surprise his form is dipping.

Where I'm at too. He has to absolutely be gassed after the last 12 months of almost nonstop football.

Unfortunately it's not Wesley's fitness that I'm worried about 😕

I just don't really know if he is good enough. But I really hope he proves me wrong because I'd love him to do well

If you look through the league very few PL teams have a decent to starting 11 strikers backing up the first choice. Jury is out on Wesley but given cups, injury, and rotation he should get multiple opportunities to prove his quality.

He needs a hand up front or at least someone that can give him a break, but havent heard of anyone yet.Hope DS is not depending on him playing 38 games plus cup gameswithout a break.

Wesley should be fully fit to start the season.

I thought the whole point of the athletic was not to do that kind of shit

Amazing how quickly The Athletic fell into the transfer click bait trap.  I honestly think it's what the average football fan wants. Either pump out links or people will question what you are doing all day.

In the same way people still harp on about the choices made in 1966 like Greavsie being dropped, the formation etc being successful, if Southgate pulls it off on Sunday then for decades people will be talking the same way for him too.

The way he rotated the squad, the way he used Grealish as a difference maker etc etc. His decisions will go down in English football folklore. History is written by the winners as they say.

Crazy to me that Southgate could actually catch criticism for how he won the tournament. Is this a UK thing?  I just can't imagine most countries caring at all how they won if their teams beings home a major final cup.

No offense to Matty, but ESR is a much higher profile signing and the speculation has drawn out for quite a while now.

The level of speculation tells me this may not actually be happening. Don't get me wrong I want this to come thru but our front office usually closes a deal quickly.  Buendia and Young both happened within a week of the first info coming to light. We don't usually drag things out like this.

I really can't see us spending anything on a DM, I don't think Smith wants or needs one. Our defensive record playing without one, and even when using Nakamba was fine. I think this window is all about increasing the creativity.

Fully agree with a small caveat. If we start hearing about either Douglas or Nakamba leaving then a new DM is on the way.

people thought we overpaid for mings

people thought we overpaid for watkins

i trust those in charge of our club that they'll get this right too if it goes through. people will think we've overpaid, but we'll prove them wrong yet again

That's pretty much my point, if he's talented then you pay the fee. Everything else will work it's way out.

Inexperienced 20 years old with less than a one PL season under his belt, a very risky gamble, versus a 23 year old whose record is already better than Ollie’s?

Not mad, no. An element of playing devil’s advocate against the narrative here yeah maybe, but not mad at all.

If Tottenham had stumped up £25 million a few seasons back they would have probably won the league with Grealish.

If ESR comes good no one is going to care we over paid when he was 20.

How can we be getting mugged off if he comes in and does a fantastic job, this daft post is well just daft.

Again Judging Tammy before he's gotten chance to put a Villa shirt on.

Was you saying all this when he was playing for us in the championship, I bet you was singing or chanting his name.

I sware to god I do hope the club signs him just so he can put you lot to shame on all that your saying because some of it is just complete nonsense.

Love Tammy and everything he did for our promotion season. I think some here are taking posters negative reaction to this transfer as some kind of slight on Tammy. I can't speak for everyone but I would say it definitely isn't that. I'm just looking this from a pure recruitment standpoint. At almost £40 million it isn't a good price.

When Iheanacho couldn't get a game with Man City, Leicester paid £25 million. Still a bit high but a much more reasonable sum. When Iheanacho left City he had 12 PL goals to his name. Tammy is currently at 21. So for 9 more goals we have to pay £15 million more. It's daft and really just bad business.

Tammy has 2 years left on his deal. If Chelsea want him off their books then we should be able to work out a far more advantageous deal than the one currently being tossed around the press.

We’ll only Man U were in for Sancho.

Only us and Arsenal in for Buendia

    Only Leicester in for Daka

    Only Liverpool for Konate

All these teams getting mugged off

    Judge Judy Reaction GIF

Which one of these players couldn't even get a game for their club? We are literally doing Chelsea a favor by clearing Tammy off their wage books. So yes £38 million for an unwanted striker is us getting mugged off.

  14. So Chelsea don't want him and all the other likely clubs aren't in for him.  Why are we paying almost £40 million then. If that's the deal we are absolutely getting mugged off.

  15. What's funny is every Villa supporter has been through enough of these drawn out transfer saga to see all the signs.

At this point you have to arrive to the conclusion that either Arsenal are unwilling to meet his salary demands or he just refuses to sign. Toss in we are the only club bidding and it makes you think he has already picked his new destination it's now just a matter of us meeting Arsenal's price.

Tammy had his chance and blew it? I'm not sure what that means in your opinion.  He went back to his boyhood club because he could see under Lampard he would get game time to express himself.  Cant argue with him doing that especially as we were a newly promoted team that was likely to struggle as we did.

Also are we onto bigger and better things than Tammy, no big name striker would come to us.  His stats and experience for a 23 year old are definitely more than enough for us.  If you listen to the so called experts over the last (almost) week is that Tammy would be looking for bigger club than Villa to go to yet Villa fans are turning their nose up at him.  Disappointing when you listen to talk shows or social media and they say Tammy will be looking for bigger than us.  Even on TalkShite yesterday at lunch Simon Jordan said no disrespect to Villa but tammy will be looking for a bigger club than us.

As for non-versatile.  I keep seeing this being brought up but how often do clubs buy players intending them to play in multiple positions.  Most players who go to clubs mostly play in one position, the manager has an idea of where he wants to play him 99% of the time.  Even our players  I can only think of Jack really playing two major different positions but even then he's played mostly LW.

    Martinez - obviously only GK

Defence - most only one position - only Konsa has played CB and RB, and even then people whinged when he was played there

Centre midfield - almost all of them have basically played just midfield whether DCM or MF, maybe CAM but essentially just midfield.

Jack - has played mostly LW but has played CAM

Traore - I think has only played RW for us.

Ollie - I think 99% of time has played as striker

El Ghazi and Trez - Looks from the stats that El Ghazi has only really played LW but has been classed as striker for a few minutes.  Trez from the stats looks a bit varied.

Even looking at a lot of other teams most players play in one position for that team 99% of the time...always good to have versatility but when it's not really used is it such a big deal.  Those that are well known for being versatile generally are not key players in those teams.

So I'm not sure where this obsession is for a load of versatility when it generally isnt used.

People have also got to stop thinking we are trying to say Tammy is better than Ollie.  We are trying to build competition and options for many reasons of two similar players with different attributes to strengthen our squad.  Some on here think 40m is too much for Tammy with our budget, some dont think we need a striker, one or two dont think Tammy is very good.  I think he's the right price, at the right time, in (in my opinion) the second priority we currently have after CAM purchase and he's the right player.

We went and found a better striker than Tammy in the Championship and at a cheaper price. So yes, I fully believe we have moved on.

Our first try to replace Tammy from our promotion winning team (Wesley) was sub-optimal. I think most on here are in agreement on that. Our second attempt (Ollie) though, found the perfect fit for our team. The pressing, hold up play, toughness, attitude, strike rate... He is pretty much the perfect striker for our setup.

I also have full faith our recruitment team can do it again when needed as well. No need to pay the scum 6 their over inflated asking price for players they don't even want, Tuanzebe included.

I love how Villa have gone about their business since our promotion. If you want to join the Villa revolution then hop on. If you perform well we will reward you with a new contract. If you don't want to then fine but we will just go find someone better. Same happened with Rashica. Turned us down so we went found twice the player in Buendia. Long may it continue.

Finally, I'll say this. NWSE has stated our ambition is to eventually unseat one of the scum 6 and challenge for Europe.  Enriching Chelsea by over paying for a striker on their bomb squad is not going to further that main ambition.
