I can't believe he's been here 2 years already and only really produced a handful of impressive moments. 5 goals and 6 assists in the league across 2 seasons. It's not completely horrific but it's just not what I think a lot of us expected from a big money signing. It's not even like it's one of those situations where the performances have been better than the numbers suggest either. He's rarely shone and often seems to be a passenger in games. It's just reached a point where it's hard for me to see it working out here. That's said whenever he's on the pitch I will be rooting for him and the rest of the team.
Just pointing out for that sort of money we're actually getting a player that's played at the top level and won the World Cup and the Europa League within the last 12 months. Whereas other teams have paid that for journeyman, mediocre players.
Seeing a few comments in threads, I'm kinda surprised how many people still watch Sky sports news. Like 10-15 years ago it was the best way of getting transfer news and stuff but seems kind of pointless now?
Emery would have been watching him every day day in training towards the end of last year before he went on loan to Middlesbrough in January. Then again since the start of pre season up until now. If Unai has decided he can't contribute to us this season or we can get someone better then I trust his judgement. That's not to say Unai can't make a mistake but he's got way more right than wrong so far both at Villa and in his career in general.
Hmm maybe, although as others have said Pau and Konsa as a partnership maybe lacks an aggression. So it might have to be Carlos and an other and it will be a new partnership either way. Dare I say Everton might be ons of the kinder PL fixtures to start them both too.
From what I know Acuna is much more like a wingback/winger which will really suit what Unai wants from that left back role, getting forward and creating.
"Aston Villa on verge of signing World Cup winner Nicolo Zaniolo and Sevilla's Marcos Acuna"
think Percy has described the wrong player as a WC winner there
