  1. They also somehow spend a lot without ever having the intent to challenge. Signing someone like Kane would have at least gone some way towards that but yet again they go for the unproven option.. who's still expensive!
  2. Personally I'd rather have Onana but guess we'll see whether he flops. Their business in general though, really poor. Should have got Kane and a better midfielder than Mount. Another team I think has stood still pretty much, which is good for us I suppose.
  3. Yeah hasn't started great but surely better than de Gea which is what I was basing it on.
  4. Not much of an update but
  5. It seems we're on the same page then I also see certain frailties, even in the Burnley and Everton matches both teams had a few opportunities to score that we could have prevented. And of course the Newcastle game speaks for itself when they could have scored 7 or 8! I think we probably have to show some patience though what with there being new defensive partnerships being formed and players like Carlos and Torres settling into the league. It seems we all have confidence though that we're going to see continuous improvement under Unai as the man just seeks perfection. If we can become even more miserly in defence while posing the threat we do at the other end we're going to be a scary prospect!
  6. Gary Goals as backup striker?
  7. In all seriousness I do agree it's something to consider but I trust Unai to get the balance right. He hasn't become a serial winner by neglecting the defensive side of the game. As you say the Liverpool game will be a big test for us and will show if the Newcastle game was a bad day at the office or whether there are any big deficiencies in our game.
  8. Spence is an attacking RWB. Doesn't suit what we're looking for IMO.
  9. I suppose you could argue Tielemans is the only player we've signed this window hat hasn't worked with either Emery or Monchi before. But yeah doesn't bother me.
  10. The opposition can't score if we've got the ball
  11. Really don't rate Cucurella. United's business has been very underwhelming, Onana aside.
  12. Would be happy with this. Ideal cover for Torres.
  13. He was on the pitch for 6 of them though, occupying defenders and directly involved in a few. Either way though I'm relaxed about what we do up front. If we get a striker great, if not it will be because Unai has seen enough qualities in someone else to do it. Heck 12 months ago who thought John McGinn would slot in seamlessly on either wing or up front on occasion. We probably shouldn't read as much into positions as we used to.
  14. Ah my bad, read it as "players we've been linked to"
  15. There was something I saw a while ago that shows when you play CBs on the wrong side how they can't always play the passes someone natural on that side would, which makes sense. So while you can play a right footer on the left or vice versa you do potentially lose something in possession, and when Unai values defensive build up so much it does make sense to be as optimal as possible there so another lefty doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.
  16. I wouldn't have said it was necessary no. But if Emery thinks it is then I won't disagree.
  17. Yeah I remember. He was LCB and Kounde RCB. So he could do it but if the plan is to play him RCB and Konsa RB then we're light. Also there's no doubt that passing options and angles change when you don't have a left footed CB.
  18. If we want someone similar to Pau that can slot in to cover that LCB role then Lenglet is a good option. It's worth remembering we only have 1 left footed CB now and Unai seems to like a balance of left and right footed players.
  19. Not sure if their transfer window closes at the same time?
