He was getting caught in possession a lot in his first Villa games, that’s disappeared now and if anything he’s more likely to win balls than lose them. He’s still making passes seemingly to no one sometimes, probably because he thinks faster than his team mates. That may be a downside with being so creative, and also why I don’t want him further down the pitch as an 8. Playing with high risk/reward is great but not too close to your own goal.

Depends on if we want to play with one or two strikers, but Watkins and Ings are looking better together by the week. Changing one of them could also lead to a new period of players having to get settled. I don’t see our strikers as a real problem, other parts of the team need investing in.

The heat map for Liverpool-Spurs is very similar to Villa-Spurs, we spent about as much time in Spurs defensive third as Liverpool did. Still we managed to lose 0-4…

He made a couple of big mistakes today, but his poor passing is a constant problem. He often puts Cash or Mings in difficult situations by passing to them at the wrong time.

If Ings and Watkins keep improving together, signing a striker feels less necessary. Esp. if Archer also keeps getting better.

I agree. Time wasting is for when your team is clearly weaker than the opposition. In other cases, it’s throwing away time that could be useful if the opposition get a fluke goal and you have to chase. Plus it can send the wrong message to the team.

We were a bit lucky not to concede in the first half, Burnley had 11 attempts then of which 5 on goal. In the second, we just outplayed them.

Where is that ”a tale of two halves” pic? First half not good at all and too many needless long balls, second half we decided to actually play through the midfield and it worked just fine. Extremely poor from Konsa though. Not alert at all and far too many mistakes.

And today we rarely even try to play out. Long goalkicks is instant lost possession.

We also need to play differently. Doesn’t matter what midfielders we have if every goalkick ends at Burnley’s central defenders, for a start.

Looking quickly one could believe Villa were the ones in claret and blue today. Burnley trying to build from deep while we’re hoofing it. Don’t think a single one of Martinez’ many kicks ended up at a Villa player.
