  1. Another tendency is people will be very picky about attacking players, but accept most defenders (or keepers) as long as they’re cheap.
  2. We’ll have to see about Suarez, I’d be surprised if he ends up at a CL club next season after Atletico let him go.
  3. Barcelona are funny, can never afford a transfer fee but have no problems paying absurd salaries.
  4. I’d love to have Brighton’s director of football. Sadly Newcastle got him.
  5. Players like AOC and Gomez will likely be bought by other midtable clubs who are willing to pay if we don’t buy them. It’s not like we’re getting a unique opportunity to sign players Liverpool would prefer to keep.
  6. If I'm a striker I might look forward to whenever Martinez tries to play the ball out with Mings and Tarkowski.
  7. It's not one or the other though is it? To create a top team you need top players, give them expert coaching and use them the strategically best way possible. Man United spent a billion too and it all went to shit.
  8. Gerrard has talked about how much he loves Pau Torres. He's now being linked with Man United for €50m (£42m). That would be some CB signing, more expensive than Carlos but not that much.
  9. If Villa finish 5th, 6th or 7th we could be playing against Roma in Europa or Conference League, they usually end up around 6th in the league. Could be like class reunion!
  10. Making huge numbers of blocks and clearances is a consequence of playing at Burnley, I doubt we want to play the same way. I know there's more to Tarkowski than that but the question for me is if he also can be part of transforming the way we build from deep.
  11. Most Villa fans appreciate Mings but he does have a (largely undeserved) bad reputation, which could make it difficult to sell him to a Premier League club. The buying club would have angry fans asking why they're signing such a terrible player. The demand for Hause depends on what his current wages are. Konsa could be sold in January -- but not unless he's actually played recently.
  12. The downside is it may not solve our problems with playing from the back and resisting press. Solid defending can keep you in the league and maybe finish top half, but I've got the impression Gerrard has higher ambitions.
  13. Botman is seen as a relatively traditional CB, big strong solid defender so maybe his type is not that different from Tarkowski. Carlos would add something more IMO in terms of playing ability. I agree Carlos and Botman would be ideal but getting both may be unrealistic.
  14. As long as the player isn’t too old, transfer fees go in both directions. Pay 30m, 4m salary, sell after two years and let’s say for argument only get 23m back. Net cost 15m. Tarkowski 6m salary for four or five years adds up to more. It’s important not to let salaries go through the roof. A big wage bill for a team that’s not yet performing means players can’t be shifted or even sent on loan sometimes. By paying transfer fees, as long as it’s not for players older than 28-29, you get the option of moving them on if needed.
  15. Also rumours about returning to Ajax. But Inter could suit him, they do love their older players. If they only get rid of Lautaro they could have an attack of Alexis Sanchez, Dzeko and Suarez next season
  16. Won’t get much for Luiz either as he only has 12 months left, last chance to get decent money probably was in January. Konsa could bring something and if Carney doesn’t sign a small sum for him. Bailey maybe out on loan looking to possibly sell in January?
  17. It's no secret Coady is there mainly to keep his team mates happy and satisfied.
  18. Refreshing to see a list where Declan Rice is 44th! And a bit strange perhaps.
  19. You have a point. Main remaining target then.
  20. Lewandowski is super healthy with a mostly vegetarian diet, while Suarez eats too much human meat.
  21. Extra fun fact is that Atletico have looked at a number of strikers to replace Suarez, and apparently Calvert-Lewin is one of them.
  22. Telegraph write Phillips is Man City's main target for the summer. Leeds staying up means they might have to pay, but that shouldn't be a problem for the Sheikh.
  23. I see my recent campaign for Gerrard as Director of Football lives on!
