  1. In reality 7.5m should be written off after one year, so selling for 20 wouldn’t be a disaster.
  2. Can’t see Newcastle signing Mings. They see themselves as CL challengers already and if we don’t want a player, they won’t take him.
  3. Still people say we’re about to sign Tarkowski, who is definitely slow.
  4. Maybe has to do with him having his breakthrough relatively late, just a few years ago. And Brazil having players like Marquinhos and Thiago Silva of course. Still a bit odd tho
  5. For control freaks like Conte or Guardiola changing assistants might not even be noticeable, but that’s not how SG has described Beale.
  6. If Beale has the importance people say he has in the coaching set-up, going into pre-season without him sounds like a disaster. Even more so if we’ve just signed a bunch of top class players.
  7. It’s hard to believe his pace has completely disappeared, more likely he doesn’t trust his body and is afraid of pushing himself.
  8. I would guess we sign two CBs. Botman maybe the least likely.
  9. Well, if Luiz is leaving we definitely need some more South Americans. Aim for 50% of the squad.
  10. We’ll see more players leave when new expensive players come in.
  11. Personality and motivation are key things as well, what makes a player want to come to a club. If you love winning and you are desperate for titles, why choose Villa at this point? Some people like Ashley Young seem motivated just by improving the team and trying to win games, but not all are the same. Is Messi walking round the pitch at PSG because he’s old and can’t move, or is it also he doesn’t really care about the french league and basically waits for the World Cup? With someone like Suarez coming to a smaller club you’d hope he’s motivated by proving to people he’s still great (he seems vindictive to me so I would guess this). If he comes only for money or to stay in shape for the World Cup, I would worry. The same question goes for all players choosing to step down from big CL clubs.
  12. True, they’ve been successful but will have more to do still.
  13. The Liverpool example shows something else as well, the possible danger of having a lot of key players basically the same age. They have been better than ever this season with the core of the team around 30 years. But those players have to be replaced sometime and worst case for them, it will happen in a short time frame (I’m looking forward to it)
  14. That’s interesting but I’m curious. How do we know if someone in a group is a leader, without even hearing them speak and just watching them during games? Unless being a leader is mostly the same as being a good player who acts responsibly in games. Not saying you’re wrong however, your ideas about who are and who aren’t leaders seem reasonable to me. I’ve also seen the opinion on-pitch leadership isn’t as it used to be, when more teams are increasingly led from the touchline by a controlling manager. I guess that would relate to teams such as Guardiola’s Man City or Conte’s Spurs where the biggest star arguably is the manager, trying to dictate every little detail even during games.
  15. Yeah I know, got carried away when people began to talk about Carlos.
  16. What people do you mean? Obviously many are involved in transfers, but Newcastle recently appointed Brighton’s director of football.
  17. The Times write that City had been looking at Rice and Tchouameni, but found them too expensive. I imagine Leeds will expect at least 70m.
  18. This is a perfect competition for Villa to win in May 2024. Not easy of course but definitely doable.
  19. Would be ideal yes, shouldn’t underestimate the importance of pre season. **** deadline day
  20. Paying large transfer fees for players aged 27+ has always been risky. That could change in the future with more players staying until contracts expire, which makes it questionable to pay transfer fees at all. Older players could become more attractive (if you can endure their smell). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_person_smell
  21. Well, the trend is already more players leave on free transfers so it sort of makes sense. Clubs will become more reluctant to pay fees when players do as they please.
  22. Even more than cost, doesn’t it boil down to if he’s the type we need now and if so, is he the top candidate? We have McGinn and Ramsey, Bissouma remains in the picture.
  23. I doubt Mings will return to the England squad. Feels like Southgate gave in to the pressure from outside critics, and if that’s the case he won’t bring him back in. Maybe he could travel along to Qatar as Coady’s partner?
  24. If he performs like last season or at the Euros he’ll be a good signing for Man City. If he doesn’t, he’ll spend his time on the bench or the treatment table — and City will win the league anyway.
