  1. Yeah I guess Suarez is likely. I just hope the amount of change isn’t too much, with potentially Beale leaving, and we end up with another transition season.
  2. I wouldn’t be shocked if we kept the attacking set-up unchanged this summer, except for maybe taking in Suarez as an option. We’re making big changes at centre-back with possibly two new in there, plus maybe LB cover and Kamara plus maybe one more midfielder who can play 6 or 8. Isn’t it possible SG sees that as enough change for one window? Adding a new starting striker as well would make it 5-6 new outfield players in the starting XI. Plus Coutinho, Buendia and Digne are relatively new as it is, and Bailey hasn’t settled yet.
  3. I agree he could have been great for us, but not sure he’ll be wasted at City. It could take time for Haaland to learn Pep’s style, plus he is already quite injury prone and will need to rest a lot. Alvarez to me looks like a perfect Guardiola player and could surprise people by becoming very useful.
  4. Pepe’s pricetag makes Bailey look like a bargain. Was it £74m they paid?
  5. Aaronson was meant to be a perfect Bielsa player when they first tried to sign him in January. I suppose when Marsch later became the new manager and knew him from before, they decided to go again now. ”The club had very pronounced tactics under Marcelo Bielsa and, though the Argentinian was sacked a few weeks after the original bids for Aaronson, Leeds believed that he would match up well to Bielsa’s tactics.” https://theathletic.com/3330285/2022/05/24/brenden-aaronson-why-leeds-pushed-hard-for-signing-and-what-usmnt-midfielder-will-bring/?source=user_shared_article
  6. Couldn’t Bissouma count as a defensive signing?
  7. He gets it, except for that about the resale value. It doesn’t matter if players perform until they’re 35, the transfer value still drops sharply around 29-30. So fees paid for players over 27-28 will more or less become net costs.
  8. I don’t believe Howe or his DoF does, it’s mostly the fans so far. But I do think they’re planning to reach Europe if not this coming season so definitely the next, and will try to make deals accordingly.
  9. It seems that Twitter bloke who wrote about us now loving south americans was right after all. What else did he write again…?
  10. For some of them, going into their final year could make it difficult to find a buyer at all. But I agree the club should at least try.
  11. Thiago Silva could be the least erratic CB on the planet.
  12. Konsa under no pressure to Cash under pressure is my favourite.
  13. This feels huge. A CL level player coming into the defence could transform us.
  14. Experienced players may be able to contribute right away, so signing them could mean instant improvement. I can see why managers want them. Managers often only last a couple of years and need to show quick results. Other roles like director of football are supposed to think more about the future and do long term squad planning. My guess is Villa are concerned about Newcastle and want to break into the top 6 now before the competition gets worse. That’s why they allow SG to sign players who may not be good investments, but can improve us now.
  15. Leicester have some valuable players! But we have one more than the others? Don’t know really. One thing about valuations is they favour younger players. So if a club like Villa sign some highly rated 29-year-olds, their transfer value probably wouldn’t reflect their quality. Wage bills are more accurate to predict success I think.
  16. To become a really good team you will need to have everything in place, and obviously good or great players to build with! But even the best squad can fail if they’re not managed in a good way, and turbulence in the coaching staff during pre-season would worry me.
  17. Personally, I’m not yet convinced Beale is that good. The issue for me is that we would need someone good, or at least someone at all, to be there at the start of pre-season. Having a bunch of newly signed top players arrive and not knowing who the main coach will be — not good. If Beale is/was the main architect, players may also wonder what’s expected of them going forward.
  18. Tarkowski has a very fancy name, almost like Fellini or Fassbinder. But quite mediocre player.
  19. Isn’t Aaronson supposed to be more an attacking midfielder? Funny anyhow with Leeds. They pick out some unknown player whose stats Bielsa liked and do anything to sign him, even though Bielsa is gone.
  20. No but fans of other clubs, who don’t watch him often, have for some reason decided he is a terrible player.
  21. Mings is certainly good enough, but many Prem clubs would think twice because of his reputation. Sign him and risk an uproar of angry fans.
  22. Saying that the squad (8th most valuable in the league, probably higher after this window) just isn’t good enough is the perfect excuse. It relieves players, manager, coaching staff and other staff from responsibility. The owners are left to suffer, wondering why they keep investing 2-3 times as much as comparable clubs each window without results.
  23. I don’t see Mings being happy as a bench option either. Especially not after having been captain.
