    They could play for a team higher up, but so could Martinez and our full backs Digne and Cash. Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara definitely could too, plus Ramsey and obviously Coutinho and Buendia. You got the best part of an XI there belonging higher up the table. West Ham have standout players too but not as many IMO.

    If SG can judge a player after just one quick look, then why have I read reports he signed 30+ players at Rangers before he got it right? I hope he gets it right sooner here.

    Most of them would get into West Hams team, their squad is with a few exceptions mostly mediocre. That’s probably why they’re rumoured to be after players many Villa fans demand we sell (McGinn, Watkins).

    5 weeks left until pre-season starts, plenty of time for Bissouma to get here. He might even be able to serve some jail time before the season kicks off.

    A world class striker is an expensive way of getting goals. Spending large parts of the budget on one super striker feels a bit outdated imo, better to have more players contribute. Makes the team less vulnerable too. Man U was the only top 6 club where the top scorer was a traditional centre forward this season.

    It’s weird when announcing a director of football feels bigger than a player signing, but makes sense in this case.

    He could probably do a job for a year. But I'm not sold on the idea of bringing in a number of short-term solutions. It could make sense if we were more or less certain we had players to fill those positions a year from now. But even though Archer, Iroegbunam and JPB are very promising there's no guarantee any of them will actually make it, and not within one or two years. Unless those players are ready relatively soon, signing short term solutions would risk being a waste of time. A couple of new young players will (hopefully) come along every season and if they're good enough they'll get in the team eventually. IMO it doesn't make sense to sit and wait.

    I doubt it. Gerrard will want to have at least one of McGinn and Ramsey on the pitch (probably both), and Coutinho as high up the pitch as possible.

    The Athletic today has a long article where a group of players watch the CL final and chat. Ben Mee mentions Watkins as some kind of personal favourite.

    Wouldn’t Mane rather replace Gnabry? In any case I doubt we could get any of them.

    Agreed. A midfield three with both of McGinn and Ramsey in it will be very attack minded, no matter how defensive the DM is.

    Spending big on fees would contradict the theory that SG plans to sign a bunch of 30-35 year olds. Typically you don’t have to pay large fees for those, even if their salaries are high. So if true that could mean a couple of younger players incoming.

    Good team except for that front three. Coutinho and Buendia standing centrally taking turns trying to play through balls to Suarez, who is to slow to reach them. And not much work done out of possession except by Buendia.

    Would also want us to get a new backup keeper.

    Still feels like Villa have a long way to go to become a possession side. New CB and DM who both can pass is good, but we would also have to press more and play with a high line. I’m curious about how SG sees it.
