    Things do change quickly. In April people were happy about how well Watkins and Ings partnership was developing. Now after a few pre-season games without scoring Watkins is a nervous wreck who must be sold immediately. If we look at official games, his last few weren't even that bad if you look at goal contributions (or ratings).

    Their academy is ”too big”, meaning they produce more talent than the first team can absorb. For the club it’s a nice situation, for the individual player it’s a problem. Villa are moving in the same direction which is likely to benefit the club. The difficult part will be to convince young players that being at a large academy packed with talent is good for them personally.

    Who are those top 8? Top 6 I understand, that’s the big rich clubs. But the remaining two? Last season Wolves were 8th, most people seem to believe they’ll finish bottom half this season. Are Newcastle a top 8 club now? Leicester despite losing all their players? I see a gulf between the 6 big clubs and the rest.

    Chelsea twitter now sound like Tuchel is planning to add Carney to the first team right away and use him. That remains to be seen of course, but interesting if it happens to see what they can get out of him now.

    Thank you. Been saying this for a year now. Brilliant player, but with very high risk/reward - keep him away from your own goal. Buendia is our own Bruno Fernandes (but more lovable obviously).

    Crazy how Joao Felix bossed that game after coming on at 60 minutes. He is now one of the best in Europe without a doubt.

    Nothing wrong with having a couple of guaranteed starters IMO. Few clubs have squads of 25 equally good players, even if that might be ideal.

    Feels like that rumour has been around forever. ”Some will be surprised by who are sold in the summer” etcetera. Together with long lists over players about to be sold for money.

    100% agree with this. Our midfield is much too attack minded, and the ball retention is crap because of that. I fear the signing of Kamara makes people think he’ll control midfield by himself, when in reality he’ll need at least one more team mate who is solid in possession. Ramsey and McGinn shouldn’t play together. Ramsey should be 1st choice and McGinn the bench option.

    Totally pointless decision. Captaincy shouldn’t even be an issue at a modern club, but taking the armband from a player who is still at the club can create a lot of bad blood. But I guess Gerrard likes to decide things in general.

    Apparently he's about to return to the club Nacional in Uruguay, where he started his career. No more top level football for him then, just as expected.

    Standard for sponsors is to have the company name only, Standard Chartered, Yokohama, Cazoo etc last year. But this, to have their bloody tagline under the company name, makes the whole shirt into an ad. Awful. Hope at least Villa got paid this time.

    You have a point but the biggest physical difference between those three is that Archer is quite a lot shorter, and that will hardly change as he’s 20 now. He’ll join the ranks of short, deadly strikers.

    What’s Aaron’s best position? Also, I read somewhere last night he’s now 190 cm tall. Unless it’s false he must have made a huge growth spurt, and could still grow further. He is/will be a physically big player, if the numbers are correct. Much taller than Jacob.

    Both insulted and worried. A club should strive to have as few players as possible who have their own street wear labels and/or rap careers.

    He’s an insane talent, no question. I fear he’ll leave, likely for Germany, but if he stays we will have signed ourselves a player who’ll be worth 75-100m within two years.

    When I saw that headline I thought about how quickly things change. It’s not impossible we’ll read stories about how Darwin Nuñez is trying to get back to his Portugal form, or how Haaland is finding it hard to fit into Pep’s machine. Only 12 months ago, Lukaku was considered top 3 of strikers on the planet.
