Chambers is in many ways our best CB. Smart and reads the game well, good technique, good passer. Question marks only about pace and general athleticism. Must be a starter now with Carlos out.

Nagelsmann has found that formation to be the best for them right now, so it’s not useless in itself. But, I fully agree about the difference between the squads.

Yes, when nothing else works he goes back to two strikers. It arguably makes our midfield worse but at least we tend to create and score.

The formation isn’t bad in itself, Nagelsmann has recently had Bayern playing 4-2-2-2 and they look better than ever. (Not that our squad is comparable)

Gallagher is great but wouldn’t be happy in a double pivot, he’s an attacking 8.

Can’t imagine him being back this season. Best case, he returns in good shape next season but the club probably shouldn’t count on it.

Mentioning Guehi and Andersen at Palace underlines Villa’s problem. We may have ”depth”, as we have a number of CB’s, but none are really that good.

It now feels like JPB is at the end of being a promising player. When I see him, I’m often amazed. Incredible skills. But when, who, why, where and when at Villa?

We may win this. The remaining problem is Ramsey and Mc Ginn starting. Other than that it’s fine. Real problem - SG is not Potter or even Howe. He is far from. Whatever good happens will only be miracles from the players.

Poor during pre season doesn’t even count. Christ. The game is gone because of people claiming Haaland is a fraud because he missed a sitter in pre season, and Darwin being shit because he also missed one. Whatever. Pre-season is for fitness and experimenting. Looking good in pre-season is suspect. Who you trying to fool? FWIW. Villa are at late May, Watkins is doing okay and Bailey needs to prove himself.

There are similarities between Man U and Villa no doubt. However we have top owners, and they don’t! Our issue is, and you may hate this, Purslow. Picked by NSWE to run things. Excellent business man. An absolute freak wanting to play Football Manager IRL with real money. For everyone repeating all the good things he’s done for the club, I don’t disagree! But he is a randomly crazy posh Liverpool fan private equity bastard and I’m not convinced Villa will even survive under his reign. It doesn’t matter to him, he’s rich. He’s bet on SG. When Ollie scores, he usually kisses the badge. Bit embarrassing. Every time I think, ”you’re just trying to please the fans”, which of course he is. But it’s okay. He’s Ollie Watkins. And do you know what? He’s my striker.

But Watkins being ”shocking” is mainly related to pre season bullshit isn’t it? Personally I don’t give a shit about pre season. I’m mentally still back in late May, with Watkins leading the line and Bailey hugging his quad.

I’m not jealous of Steve Cooper at this point. Apart from having to integrate 12 new players they’ve also signed some difficult characters in Lingard and Dennis. All set for dressing room drama.

Since Ings is pretty useless as a lone striker it doesn’t make sense to play him alone up top. For me it’s either Ollie or both of them.
