  1. ”Are footballers insured against injury?” https://sqaf.club/football-clubs-insurance-injured-player/
  2. Counting the hours on deadline day remains a tradition even when Purslow’s says everything is done.
  3. I read somewhere players wages are generally insured against injury. Even if premiums are high it’s probably still better than signing a player on a 4 year contract at 10m a year and potentially see their career ended after a few weeks. The transfer fee would still be lost.
  4. Hasn’t some killjoy posted Caleta-Cars defensive stats yet?
  5. Very true. This is why players from CL clubs on the continent often are happy to join Villa, but also why we rarely can get rid of players.
  6. His goal scoring dropped like a stone last season after being good previous seasons. Does anyone know why?
  7. Progressing the ball quickly often means hoofing it. Burnley were the most direct team before they got relegated.
  8. Salaries in Italy are also usually reported after taxes, so might be closer to 7m in that case.
  9. He was highly rated and Leicester had great hopes when they signed him last summer, but he turned out a huge flop. Don’t know why really.
  10. This is what the most recent signing said: ”The manager was one of the big reasons. He played at the highest level, won many things and was a midfielder, too. It means a lot to have interest from him and I think he can teach me many things.” (Onana about signing for Everton)
  11. Not comparable. Both Bournemouth and Everton made it clear they intended to sit deep, they didn’t press high and more or less handed the initiative to Villa. Few games will be like that.
  12. The best part of the Athletic article was when Gregg praised Villa for being decisive in similar situations before, bringing in the likes of Samatta and Drinkwater.
  13. The Athletic article says we will get someone in for Carlos. We won’t however make a high profile signing of another CB but instead look for a loan or a cheaper option. It also says the CB issue makes it less likely we’ll sign another midfielder.
  14. Having two attack minded players in a midfield three doesn’t work. Not enough patience, too many difficult high risk passes. They often try to play above their skill level.
  15. Bayern are already looking better without him, as an example of when losing a prolific striker frees up the rest of the team. I expect Barcelona to try and sell him within a year.
  16. Can’t see any team dropping points to Man U this season, although I understand it probably will happen at some point.
  17. Right until he scored, the whole of Twitter were convinced Diaz is the most overrated player in the league.
  18. He should have grabbed him by the hair and swung him to the floor instead. Lack of experience.
  19. You think VT are that stupid? Andersen is a great player and I can’t see Palace letting him go.
  20. Aouar would be a high profile signing. That fat greek guy means business.
