  1. It’s important the wingers are out and out. Ordinary wingers won’t do.
  2. My guess is we have a bloated coaching setup, but I’m happy to be corrected.
  3. Ramsey seems highly rated by football fans in general, as he should be.
  4. That number was probably correct until he signed his new contract earlier this year. He’s likely on 10 times that now, or at least 50.
  5. Saints fans point to Bednarek not being comfortable playing a high line like Hasenhuttl prefers to do. He might be a better fit at Villa then.
  6. Not sure I understand this. Three years ago, we were a worse team than today. We’ve improved but there’s still much left to do. Is the idea that we should be grateful for still being in the top flight, welcome Bednarek and stop whining? The owners have made clear they have higher ambitions.
  7. He’s in his prime and far from old. But at 26, with many seasons in the Prem, it’s reasonable to assume he’s reached his ceiling. Not likely to improve.
  8. At Saints forums they expect 15m. But they also seem happy to give him away if that was the case.
  9. I doubt SG would have Bednarek as our 4th choice this season. When they convince him to change clubs, I assume he’ll more or less be guaranteed playing time before the World Cup.
  10. I’ve actually thought about this too. When Villa are about to make a signing, or appoint a manager, there are very often Scandinavian names suggested which I assume is because of Lange. Nothing wrong in itself, there’s talent there. But Ten Hag and Man U have been criticized for only looking at the Eeredivise because that’s all Ten Hag knows, instead of using the club’s network. It seems to me Lange is doing something similar, relying on his nordic contacts — maybe because he doesn’t have any other contacts.
  11. Because Gerrard only wants proven winners, like Bednarek?
  12. I still believe most of this change is because we’ve played two very negative sides who were happy to give Villa the initiative (and the ball). But you have a point about the problem of getting into the box and creating real chances. It was much the same last season against teams that sat back deep, like Watford and Newcastle. Villa were in possession in the final third for long periods, but could not create chances from there.
  13. Absolutely, but most teams have similar issues with some players not actually playing. And trimming the wage bill is also part of the job of managing the club.
  14. It will come down to results in relation to money spent. Squad valuations are difficult, going by Transfermarkt Villa currently have the 8th most valuable squad but there’s a subjective element there. Wage bills are more reliable. The correlation between wage bill and league position is usually strong, even though great managers like Potter or Frank sometimes achive more with less money. Villa now appear to have the 7th or at least 8th highest wage bill in the league, so the team should be around that place in the long run. This season just started, but if Villa find themselves in the bottom half later on the team is clearly underperforming.
  15. Yes, lots of holes in it. Carlos isn’t even in there. Most likely it’s the same for all teams. But I believe the general trend it shows about the wage bill in relation to the competition.
  16. If we are at 170-180 player wages would have increased with about 40m. Doesn’t that sound high? We’ve added four high earners who are on 6-7m each per year.
  17. Lots of issues with their figures, but it’s still the most used resource since the others are worse.
  18. Spotrac says Villa now have the highest wage bill outside the big 6. Still some way up to Arsenal and Spurs, but according to them Villa are above Everton and Leicester from this season. https://www.spotrac.com/Premier League/
  19. Yes it could very well be FFP. But if it is, wouldn’t the club say so to avoid fans calling for more players? Maybe they want to avoid that sort of media scrutiny.
  20. Forsberg is pretty similar to Buendia, energetic playmaker and creator who seems to like a free role.
  21. Depressing post but this is what I fear too. The initial enthusiasm that came with the new owners is dampening a bit after a few badly planned signings and appointments. Hopefully Villa can keep a long-term outlook and work around these things.
  22. Forsberg is a fine player but would be a brain dead signing. We have two playmaking 10s competing for minutes, let’s buy one more? And 31 years too. Refuse to believe this.
  23. We’re just taking the ball-playing CB concept to a new level.
  24. Start an account on Twitter and spread words about Man U monitoring McGinn, let the snowball effect take care of the rest? Within days McGinn could be ”unsettled” and on deadline day Ten Hag welcomes a player in turkey costume.
