    Spurs are a bad example though. Conte is notorious for starting the exact same XI every time unless someone’s injured. He wants his players to be able to perform certain patterns perfectly.

    Buendia behind Watkins and Ings would have been my choice. I believe Villa’s six latest wins are with Watkins and Ings playing. But time for Bailey to show what he can do.

    A few months ago, Wolves squad looked like crap. Now with a few additions it suddenly looks pretty good (and they’ll finish ahead of us again).

    My guess is that when Gerrard tried to get Coutinho here, he promised him all the game time he would need at Villa ahead of the World Cup. When we play a setup with two strikers, there’s only room for one south american nr 10 and so Buendia will usually be starting on the bench. I believe SG really rates Buendia, but he may have painted himself into a corner somewhat regarding Coutinho.

    Maybe it’s not too late? McGinn isn’t a destroyer DM like Casemiro anyway. Purslow could still sell him as a more down-to-earth alternative to De Jong.

    Villa really supplying the Süper Lig with players now. It’s the current food chain: Man City sign who they want, their discarded players go to Arsenal, Arsenal rejects go to Villa and after that it’s off to Turkey.

    Apparently they’re exploring a loan for Sanson (The Athletic again): ”But like Traore, Sanson wants to be playing regularly, and the search for a temporary move is on. Both Besiktas and Galatasaray have shown an interest and the former Marseille man is also open to a return back to France, with various options explored.”

    It’s seems clear though Gerrard doesn’t rate him and would be fine with him leaving. Not that it’s a surprise.
