  1. Bednarek getting closer to Villa — moved to a house in north Southampton
  2. That’s possible. If they make that into a pattern players should learn to stay away from them — I’m sure Zakaria was counting on staying there for a while.
  3. Yeah, in January. Has he been that shit? It was seen as a great signing then as he came on a free.
  4. They have Marquinhos, Kimpembe and Ramos so he’s certainly no first choice. Looks a decent player though.
  5. He'll have to answer that, but from the outside it looks like Leicester are in a strong negative trend. They still have a really good squad, but the days aiming for top 4 are gone and more players than Tielemans want to leave. The club might need a restart (with a new manager)
  6. At least ours is better than Liverpool's current midfield
  7. Yes he did, I believe he broke all kinds of commercial records while he was there. Let's hope he's trying to repeat that (and stays away from the football stuff).
  8. The club will have to make some extremely lucrative sponsor deals then. FFP is a real issue.
  9. All I really know about the turkish league is that it's where we ship all our failed signings.
  10. 60m for Isak makes 45m for Jesus look really, really cheap.
  11. Confirmation bias is huge in people's opinions. If someone belives player A is shit, he/she will without thinking about it constantly be looking for things to confirm that opinion and vice versa. A player could have a near perfect game except for maybe one bad touch, and that bad touch would be all the critical viewer would remember. There's also the echo chamber effect. Last season Luiz was a bit out of form for a few games, nothing special really but online the general opinion about him quickly escalated to the point where groups of Villa fans were screaming abuse at him at home games. Absurd.
  12. Maybe Luiz can't repeat that corner 10 times out of 10, but surely 8 or 9 times. Why is that so unbeliveable?
  13. Pedro is a real talent, good deal for Ashworth/Newcastle. It was quite depressing when we were reported to be going in for Sarr while they targeted Pedro. I expect Ashworth to keep making good value signings just like he did at Brighton. While we seem to pick up random PL players who've reached their ceiling and thus become available or look like a bargain.
  14. I'd like it to be both things. Give some kids a chance but also have more first team regulars on the bench, ready to come in early in the second half if needed. In the later stages, start the strongest team. That is what most PL clubs do.
  15. Of course he did, Dougie is one of our most technical players after Coutinho. I like how the ball drops at the end. Yesterday it sailed high over the keeper but landed pretty close to the bottom of the post.
  16. We looked fine in that second half yesterday. But I can't help comparing it to the first cup game last year against Barrow when we started this team. That game was when Archer first was noticed by a bigger audience. Carney has since been sold, JPB is at Cardiff. The league cup used to be an opportunity for the kids to prove themselves and I fear not giving them enough chances could be negative for the club -- at least if that becomes the norm.
  17. Compare this to the game against Barrow last year. The Villa team filled with youth, lots of confidence and harmony. Playing a full strength team against Bolton sends the signals to our players we are a club in crisis, we should be frigthened. No one seems to be enjoying this game one bit. Like someone said, we might have been better off with the kids (and a real manager obviously).
  18. Cups are nice but keeping youth happy is even more important long term IMO. My idea about cup games against lesser sides is you give youth a chance to shine, but have some of your best players on the bench. If there is a problem, make subs early in the second half to try and secure the win.
  19. There's certainly a big difference between those first Gerrard games and what came later, when he had time to work on his ideas. Those first games were basically just sitting back in a tight shape, force the opposition wide, hand over possession and play on the counter. Not very exciting but it did give us a few points.
