  1. Don’t believe he’s shit but I do think Sanson’s reputation has been helped by not playing much. He looks a tidy player but imo hasn’t shown that much either defensively or going forward. He likes to put a foot on the ball and look around but doesn’t take the initiative. Rarely involved in attacks and not many great passes, or ball recoveries. Villa really could use tidy players in midfield but his passing stats actually aren’t that great compared to Douglas Luiz for example (although good compared to McGinn).
  2. Maupay to Everton apparently done. A player not even Potter could make look good.
  3. He was injured a lot, but also benched enough times by Smith to have a bottle kicking fit at the Emirates.
  4. I’m sure that Insta post guaranteed he’d never play for Villa again, with previous bottle kickings against Arsenal and Man U in recent memory. When asked publicly about such incidents, managers will typically say it’s no big deal, good to see players being passionate and so on. But what they really think is: disrespectful behaviour, get rid.
  5. It seems pretty clear we are waiting for others to make up their minds at this point. Like when you’re bidding on Ebay and right before the auction ends you don’t know if you’ll end up with one, two, three items or nothing (or be able to pay for it all)
  6. Haha, was thinking the same thing. Same with Eriksen (Ericksen, Eriksson) at Man U.
  7. With the rules tightening from UEFA, and the current rules in the league, Villa may have to get used to not spending that much more than they receive from sales. The wage bill doesn't leave much room for big transfer spending.
  8. Saw SG refer to a player as "Luda", took a while until I realised he meant Augustinsson and not the rapper.
  9. The idea that Villa are about to sign three more players, where does that come from?
  10. This is probably correct and if so, it's a problem. Sporting director normally is an executive position, he's not supposed to be a scout.
  11. We'll have to see how a technical player like him feels about playing for Moyes after a few games.
  12. He was brilliant against Man City, but Saint-Maximin is usually a very frustrating player. Taking players on at every opportunity, refusing to pass, getting dispossessed around the halfway line leading to a counter for the opposition. Usually scores 3-4 goals per season with a similar number of assists. Just five months ago many Newcastle fans wanted him out of the club.
  13. Morelos was dropped from the squad in Rangers CL qualifyer last night. Manager had enough of his lack of discipline and fitness, apparently. Sounds like a dream buy! https://theathletic.com/3531190/2022/08/24/alfredo-morelos-rangers-saga-dropped-psv/?source=user_shared_article
  14. I also thought it sounded high (it came from previous pages in this thread) and would imply a huge average salary. Anylme remember what it was last year, in total or men’s first team only?
  15. Would also like to know, especially what part of the wage bill is men’s first team players (not admin and others) since that is what counts according to Swiss Ramble. I’ve seen wage bill estimates of around 170m for 2023 and player amortisation of around 70m, and turnover estimates of 160-170m. Unless players are sold for big money, that would take us very far from the new percentage limits (90% eventually decreasing to 70%). We would be around 140%?
  16. That’s what I believe as well. SG maybe underestimated the fans reactions to Mings being dropped (and stripped of captaincy). When it became a story in the media he may have had second thoughts, plus Carlos injury made dropping Mings too difficult to persist with for now. I don’t think Gerrrard’s long term vision has Mings in it. Fwiw Mings wouldn’t be a starter in my long term vision either, but with Carlos out he is probably still our best CB. Need to improve that part of the team going forward.
  17. He’s also been very good for us in periods tbf, under Smith but also early in the Gerrard era. Look back at old match threads here on VT, voted MotM many times. It’s true that his gung-ho playing style in a way limits the team, but it’s also too easy to forget the good things when a player is out of form.
  18. The Red Bull formation! Supposed to be effective for intense gegenpressing, with the front six relatively narrow and hard to play through. We tend to press high maybe one game in five, maybe it’s time? I quite like those player selections.
  19. Checked some West Ham forums, Moyes isn’t exactly loved right now. ”If he carries on playing the same way, there is not a chance in hell.Dosen't he realise,we have been found out the way we have been playing. It's not like we try and have a go?We just sit back and wait and try and hit Antonio and Bowen or try and get a set piece. There is nothing else to our game.I watched the 2 other games today.Newcastle gave it a real go today against City. What a brilliant game to watch.Throughly enjoyable.Leeds took it to Chelsea and demolished them.Us v City, the biggest bore I have seen for a while.City playing like they were having a kick about with the young kids at the club. That was embaressing, when you watched how Newcastle played especially. No wonder there is no conifedence in the team?IF Moyes carries with this negativity, nevermind not getting results,he needs to leave.Put Warburton in charge till Christmas.” ”Have to say one of the worst and inept displays from this football club and I’ve seen some **** shit over the years.Zouma plays like a patient with **** club feet Soucek is a total embarrassment on the **** pitchFabianski too **** oldAntonio two bobBowen **** woeful Rice seems disinterested never thought I’d say that Lanzini what a **** joke he isFornals runs around a bit but does the square root of **** all.Cresswell needs replacing pronto Coufal needs replacing got his feet under the table for decent money now don’t give a ****Give the new fellas a bit more time but I can see them getting pissed off big time the way this clown keeps playing the same **** way week after week so predictable it’s **** embarrassing. We will be in deep shit in the next month or so.You can’t even make excuses for the words removed**** dogshit.”
  20. Just realised that finishing 7th is the point where you don’t have to play the second round in the league cup. Another reason to aim for 7th instead of 8th then.
  21. What Jack needs is a couple of mediocre bums transfering to the PL for 100m+ this summer. If it becomes a standard sum people will stop shouting ”100m” whenever he’s mentioned.
  22. Sit deep, force them out wide and play on the counter? Traditionally the best way for us to get points.
