In theory — full conspiracy mode — they could have had a fallout which made SG decide not to play Mings. He can’t really say that publicly so goes with ”illness” for now. But for that to work he would have to trust Mings being loyal and not tell the truth in social media, so very unlikely.
I believe that as well. Everyone keeps saying Purslow’s ruthless and I’m sure he is, but he also seems to care a lot about his own reputation. Sacking SG now would mean admitting a big mistake.
Cooper is in a difficult situation now though with that mafioso owner signing players like there’s no tomorrow. Unless he can get everyone to click he’ll be under huge pressure from the Greek, and could very well be sacked in November.
I like Cooper but he remains unproven at the highest level.
West Ham’s players as well as Villa’s players must know their respective managers are potentially in the shit with a loss today. That’s a lot of power on their hands. We’ll see which squad is the most eager to get a new manager.
Generally speaking we have under SG performed better against the top teams than against lesser teams. Played well against Man City both times and once against Liverpool, dominated Spurs ….
We just haven’t got a result in any of those games.
Definitely, he really personifies the club. I believe he’s also the highest paid manager in Europe, well ahead of Guardiola. Earns something like €40m per year.
Agree with this. Could be an ongoing cultural shift. Most clubs haven’t seen the manager as an asset in the same way as players are, but that is changing.
The importance of people like Pep and Klopp for rebuilding their respective clubs is difficult to argue with, they’re obviously extremely valuable.
It’s not common but if a manager has a long time left on his contract with a club, the club could refuse to let him talk to another potential employer. Bayern paid Leipzig something like 25m to get Nagelsmann, and his remaining contract with Leipzig wasn’t worth nearly that much.
When SG said Carlos will play again this season, I read it more as him trying to encourage the player and keep his hopes up (possibly also trying to encourage the fans). Gerrard can’t really know when Carlos will be ready, or worst case even if he ever will be.
