  1. Perhaps only canadian Pete left among the supporters then?
  2. Rodgers looks like he should take a couple of years off, move to Honduras and teach schoolkids to play ball or something. He’s gone from job to job and looks tired. But he would obviously be a huge improvement on Gerrard, and unless there are better candidates why not.
  3. Of course we should ask him, would be criminal of Purslow not to try.
  4. I’m quite sure he’s had other offers before and turned those down, even during summer when leaving would have been easier. Leaving Brighton right now would be stupid and he won’t do it. The Potter ship has sailed, when he does move it will be for a CL club or the England job.
  5. The players have probably seen all this coming for a long time. Talking to each other about how strange it is they have a manager who can’t coach and doesn’t do tactics.
  6. The break is two weeks later, after the Leicester and Southampton games.
  7. Very much agree about Luiz. Playing Watkins and Ings is logical though, they’ve started all our wins since early this year. It’s not like we have better options that haven’t been tested within this system. Changing the system would be better of course.
  8. No thanks, there are other options out there. Villa haven’t had a really good manager in a long time but they do exist.
  9. Potter would be a dream but he would never leave Brighton now. Poch could take the job as a stop-gap if he’s feeling bored, but would be highly likely to leave as soon as a bigger club calls. Rodgers will most likely be available in a few weeks and would probably take the job, although it looks like he most of all could use a year or two doing something else or just rest. There are also plenty of managers in the big european leagues, but I’m not sure Purslow would like some bearded german.
  10. If they were at the game, at least they couldn’t avoid hearing the boos at full time. But I’m sure Purslow will fight for SG so this could drag on for a while.
  11. It will depend upon how much Nas and Wes trust Purslow. They’ve left the club in his hands pretty much. Let’s hope they have enough spare time to be active owners now.
  12. Exactly. I don’t think SG was planning to play the kids much anyway as he wants quick results. But when he’s about to be sacked, he won’t do it at all. Let’s hope this doesn’t get drawn out.
  13. The Gerrard pull turned into the Gerrard push.
  14. I see a clear risk of Purslow leaving it until the World Cup break. That would be after 16 games.
  15. SG had double coaching staffs since he decided to keep parts of Smith’s. Maybe the next manager will keep everyone and add his own to break a staff record?
  16. Yeah I’m all for approaching candidates right now and if someone can be in place before Leicester, great. But I suspect the int break will be used for making the change, that’s usually the case.
  17. Bringing a new manager in now, right before Arsenal and City, would be insane. But how about sacking SG tonight and leaving Critchley in charge until the first international break.
  18. It’s not even an issue of playing McGinn or Buendia or whoever. The main problem is that Gerrard is married to this system of his, a system that’s not working. He doesn’t have the tactical knowledge to understand why it’s not working, and he doesn’t have a clue about how to change it. After all, he didn’t even invent it — Beale did. What SG has contributed to Villa since he arrived is a number of news headlines. He’s also ruined the mood in the dressing room by the look of it. He has to go asap. The next thing to think about should be Purslow’s next pick. I’m extremely worried about that.
  19. The big problem isn’t even player selection. It’s his failure to coach the players and make them familiar with systems that are useful in different situations. Making the wrong player selections is just the icing on the cake.
  20. Some managers (Klopp?) tell their defenders to not try and block long range shots where the keeper has a good view. A deflection more dangerous than the actual shot.
  21. Scamacca really made a poor decision going to West Ham.
  22. Funny how it’s often tackles that get the crowd going.
