  1. The guy writing on twitter is the Ajax reporter at the country’s biggest daily though.
  2. If Bailey leaves for Ajax we don’t have any wingers left (I don’t count Buendia as a winger). Wonder what the next manager will think about that.
  3. Purslow is bad at football matters simply because he’s no football expert. He is a football fan — but has no more background in football than a regular bloke in the stands. He is a banker and became chief exec at Liverpool with the single task of selling the club, which he did. He couldn’t stay away from making some bad football decisions however, like appointing Hodgson and signing a couple of players who ended up not playing. At Chelsea he was strictly a commercial director and made a number of lucrative deals. Before he started the Chelsea job their club media wrote articles to calm down the fans, assuring CP would not interfere with football matters. At Villa, it sounded for a while as if football things were to be handled by the new sporting director. But to me it looks like Purslow stills plays Football Manager in real life, mainly with other peoples money.
  4. I see you’re thinking what I’ve been thinking.
  5. Unless Purslow stays out of football related decisions, similar problems will keep returning.
  6. This is it in a nutshell (except for the fact he doesn’t know much about coaching or tactics). Not winning a majority of games is completely new to him and he can’t deal with it.
  7. A straight swap would be interesting. A unique opportunity for little Leicester to get their hands on a real football legend. Imagine the players SG could attract to their squad.
  8. Point taken. SG also too proud to use a translator.
  9. It was telling last season, early 2022, when there was a league break and Gerrard was happy to finally get time to work with the players on the training pitch. And when they returned, they were clearly worse. The more time SG has had with the squad, the worse it has become.
  10. Emery seems a really good manager, but apparently he was having trouble with the language at Arsenal. His english is quite poor and so it was hard for him to explain things.
  11. Hope the next manager isn’t planning on using any wingers, since we’ve sold ours. The transfer strategy under Gerrard has really made things difficult for anyone coming in.
  12. Leicester’s decline since 2021 is worrying, the squad is clearly underperforming. Maybe he has a good explanation.
  13. Maybe he could bring along some Leicester people responsible for recruiting players?
  14. Not him. He’s never played any other style than Burnley’s, so would use it here as well. Our squad isn’t suited to a game based on physical battles and trying to win headers and second balls. Villa fans would hate it. Our players would hate it and leave asap.
  15. What do you mean with Potter ”supposedly” done well at a lesser club? It’s there to see. The club will have to choose between candidates who are less than perfect. They will either come up from smaller clubs where they’ve done very well (Potter) or down from bigger clubs where they’ve done less well (Poch). Or sideways from clubs where they have been okay (Rodgers). Or from abroad (where they’ve most likely performed voodoo rituals and danced around to the sound of didgeridoos)
  16. Or just borrow that old Purslow banner the Liverpool fans made?
  17. Only one positive today: at least Villa fans have seen through Gerrard relatively quickly. At Everton, fans are still living in the illusion that Lampard is actually a good manager.
  18. Absolutely, I agree. I only mentioned Hjulmand because he apparently was a candidate when Smith was sacked (I suppose Lange knows Hjulmand).
  19. There’s a strong tradition of british managers at the club but I believe some foreign influence could be good at this point. Bundesliga would seem an obvious place to look considering how successful many german managers have been the last decade.
  20. Pay them off hopefully. The worst would be to let the new manager bring his people but still keep the old ones, like Gerrard did. A complete fresh start is needed.
