This is such a shit place to be in, when a manager is doomed but the board is still waiting for the results to become bad enough to justify a sacking. A pointless, destructive wait.
-
Are you talking about Stevie now?
-
Don’t think he has to go via Villa first to get a top 4 job. Could also see him take a job abroad again, maybe some CL or EL club in Italy or Spain.
-
Also believe Poch would be more likely to accept. He’s probably bored and missing the league, so the club asking first could get him. Until a much bigger club calls him that is, whenever that happens.
-
But it would be taking a risk stepping into a club currently in some trouble when the season’s already started, destroying his legacy and all goodwill at Brighton. When instead he could stay this season and maybe one more at Brighton, then before pre-season starts take over some bigger club that is already in Europe. He’s not exactly in a hurry. Hope I’m wrong obviously.

The worst thing is they have a point.

He didn’t really. But he was rarely fit and Smith sometimes chose not to play him even when fit.
-
Apparently their owners have said they can’t sign anyone without selling first, so they will have to if they want to bring someone in. Not sure if FFP related. Selling Tielemans also makes sense because he won’t sign a new contract, so would lose him for nothing in May.

It’s a lot since he’s in his last year! If Tielemans had a recently signed contract he would probably cost 50-60.

Some have pointed out that SG spent his whole playing career under relatively conservative managers at Liverpool (Benitez, Hodgson, Dalglish et c) which could explain his old-school views. He hasn’t really been exposed to much in the way of modern tactics.
-
Since I don’t believe Potter or Poch would be gettable Rodgers so far looks like the more realistic candidate. But I’m still hoping Purslow will look to Germany and Spain for candidates as well, Marco Rose and others.
-
Rodgers having a ceiling around 4th is fine with me. But I do worry a bit about how much Leicester have underperformed this season and the one before. Their squad is one of the best outside the big 6 but it really hasn’t shown.

Good post. On a side note there’s also the issue of the nervous crowd — if/when Villa ever do invite the press the home crowd will invariably lose their shit and yell at the player to hoof it immediately.

It’s not even about points anymore, his actions recently are negative for the club. Take his keys and change the locks asap.

Ross Barkley and Jan Bednarek could take us places under Solskjaer.
-
Was probably me who wrote that. I have a hunch

Ings and Watkins may not work, but they’ve still been our only way of winning games under 2022.

Ajax are not Man United. In fact they are pretty much the opposite when it comes to transfers.
-
Yeah that’s actually a better argument.
-
Thankfully that risk is slim, even though Ajax are brilliant sellers.

Bailey hasn’t even been that harshly treated by Gerrard, at least not compared with many others. When fit he has usually played, not always from the start but still. This season he’s played 180 mins to Buendia’s 170 and Coutinho’s 220.
