There’s also the psychological effect of self preservation. When a player leaves fans will tell themselves it’s no big loss and was he really that good anyway? We saw some of that here when Luiz left.

I also want to post my usual complaint about us not having a more solid nr 2 in goal. Olsen isn’t as awful as some make out but the drop-off from Emi is enormous. Other clubs have better backup keepers. And Emi tends to miss games now and then.

Loan would be great but difficult If you want a quality player. I’d sell Duran to begin with, and ideally buy someone who is specialized as a 6 but can also play as an 8. Barrenechea may turn out great but seems like a wildcard to me.

The obvious answer is we’re weak at DM. With Kamara out for another 6 months and a very unproven Barrenechea as the only specialized replacement.

Exactly, they are the same type of CB. Brilliant ball players who are there to progress the ball and make line breaking passes. It makes sense to have one of those beside a more traditional defender.

I’m sure one of the objectives for this window and the next couple of windows is to get rid of aging players on high wages and bring in talented younger players on lower wages. Our high wage bill in relation to revenues tells me that. Hopefully we can do this in a smart way without weakening the team, and even making it stronger in the long run.

”Lost possession” in the stats usually includes everything. Misplaced passes, being tackled, ball going out of play, playing someone offside, shot going wide, the lot. Technically you also lose possession when you score a goal, not sure how that counts though.

What usually happens with deals is the selling club claim they got a lot, say 50m, while the buying club say it was only 35m. Various numbers in different publications (even accounting for obvious things like including/excluding add-ons and mixing euros and pounds). Fans choose the figures they like.
