  1. Their bad start also lasted exactly three games. After which they went on a nine game unbeaten run (I think)
  2. There will be a lot of elite old-school managers available this autumn. Dyche, Gerrard, Big Dunc ….
  3. He should have compared himself to Nuno at Spurs instead. Sacked after just 10 games and no-one regrets it (except maybe Nuno).
  4. With Dyche our current players would leave as soon as they could. So would be a rebuild and bringing some players with stature.
  5. What would change? We (Dyche) would get rid of midget forwards like Buendia and bring in a couple of big blokes who can head the bloody ball. I'm sure Newcastle would let Chris Wood go.
  6. I see Pirlo has taken a step back from Juventus and is currently managing Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük.
  7. I would go for it as well! (but with a good contingency plan)
  8. Yeah, that's the catch. Poch at Villa would most likely be a short affair. It's not as if he has to prove himself at Villa first to get offers from other clubs (like Gerrard would have to get the Liverpool job). Poch is seen as already proven so could leave anytime.
  9. In that case would probably look at, apart from Pochettino, spanish managers like Emery or Lopetegui. Spanish managers often do well in Europe. (They would have to get there first of course)
  10. Not looking at results, some of the better performances under SG have been against Man City (home and away), Liverpool (home) and Spurs (home, still lost 4-0). Playing ”lesser” teams under SG has been the worst. Watford, Brentford, Bournemouth, Newcastle before they clicked and so on. Awful.
  11. Under Gerrard we have often looked better against the top teams (still without getting results). We are awful when trying to break teams down. Arsenal will be different and it’s not totally impossible we could perform better. If that happens, some will no doubt return to backing Gerrard. The most emotional outcome however would be if Arsenal put 6 or 7 behind Martinez, who they love to ridicule.
  12. Found the net spend too, seasons 21/22 and 22/23 combined. Newcastle are on top in the PL, but small difference to Arsenal, Man U and West Ham. 1 Newcastle United Newcastle United €266.50m 21 - 16 €-266.50m 2 Arsenal FC Arsenal FC €299.46m 32 €55.20m 30 €-244.26m 3 Manchester United Manchester United €283.02m 33 €42.20m 26 €-240.82m 4 West Ham United West Ham United €256.50m 22 €22.04m 18 €-234.47m 5 Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham Hotspur €265.80m 32 €73.37m 31 €-192.43m 6 Nottingham Forest Nottingham Forest €164.04m 51 €7.88m 44 €-156.17m
  13. If you look specifically at the calendar year 2022 maybe. They spent in January and now this summer plus haven't sold much if anything. Here's a list of the last two seasons in the Prem (not net spend but overall). Transfer expenditures 2021/22 & 2022/23 ----- CFC 118m + 202m (320m) AFC 167m + 132m (299m) MU 140m + 143m (283m) MC 135m + 122m (257m) TH 96m + 120m (216m) WHU 70m + 139m (209m) NU 131m + 66m (197m) AV 130m + 55m (185m) LFC 87m + 86m (173m) LU 59m + 106m (165m) WW 38m + 119m (157m) CP 86m + 35m (121m) BHA 75m + 37m (112m) Saints 43m + 56m (99m) Brentford 37m + 51m (88m) EFC 40m + 36m (76m) LC 68m + 0m (68m)
  14. Where's Pochettino living these days? England isn't it? If they're meeting him at his house I suppose Gerrard didn't come along this time.
  15. "I’ll never forget the game either last year or two years ago at Turf in the middle of the **** storm and Dyche still had Lowton and Taylor trying to send crosses into the box in gale force winds. I think the storm was so bad the rest of the Prem games were called off for the day. He was telling them to send **** crosses in gale force winds. That is some real sicko type shit. Like a perversion towards only playing crosses during games." https://www.reddit.com/r/Burnley/comments/u57f3e/why_we_ditched_dyche_an_amateur_report_for_all/
  16. We'll see, maybe he shocks people when he finally gets another job. I doubt it and Villa isn't the place for experiment now.
  17. I don't think that much points towards Dyche being flexible, he's had many years to try different things. My guess is Dyche-ball is what he knows. The club could obviously take a chance on him being good at other ways of playing, but that would be a big gamble.
  18. After the World Cup many managers could become available. Martinez, Hjulmand, Southgate....
  19. Purslow wants glamour and it doesn't get less glamorous than Dyche. It would also be a disaster, of course.
  20. This is often the case when media discuss potential manager sackings. No-one cares about players being benched or sold, that's part of the game. But when a manager is in danger, many think of it as an ordinary employee at a company being treated harshly. Unless a manager has been drunk at work or been caught by the police he deserves to stay -- according to some. Also, media and fans of other clubs for some reason often feel the need to interfere when it comes to saving managers.
  21. Possibly also - Hiring Jesus - Allowing Gerrard to target older players on high wages
  22. You're giving him far too much credit there. I'm sure we are a complete mess in the weeks between games as well.
  23. Well with Coutinho injured at least Buendia will play now, as long as it lasts.
