  1. Yeah but he peaked five years ago and isn’t enough of a runner anymore to feature for them at all. Maybe in Gerrard’s system, where wide players aren’t out wide and don’t run, he can have some luck before it’s off to Turkey.
  2. I really can't stand Soyüncu. Clumsy, stupid decisions, not quick. I'm sure he's a lovely guy but please no.
  3. I'm sure that's at least one part of it.
  4. They have a great recruitment team but lost their well respected director of football to Newcastle recently. Brighton have acted intelligently in the market and signed talent at low prices, but they have a tight budget and aren't exactly spending freely. Striker is the most expensive category of players -- good strikers are nearly always expensive unless you find them young.
  5. Not sure all of West Ham's new players earn that much or that they have that many over 100k per week. Newcastle now seem to have three players earning over 100k (Trippier, Bruno G, Isak). Villa have quickly gone from 1 player earning over 100k to having 5. Players sold for a big fee are often a bit younger and not yet on massive wages, that's what clubs pay the transfer fees for -- the value of the registration is higher if the salary is reasonable. Players already on massive wages usually don't command huge fees.
  6. Not sure he's athletic and quick enough for all the running required, but apart from that Dougie could be a decent fit for Liverpool's midfield as he's reliable in possession and a good passer.
  7. Not sure what options there are with the academy kids, but we only have three fit senior centre-backs so someone must come in.
  8. What I suppose he can do is say that we have enough players and sanction him leaving. I understand he won't be picking the buyer or negotiate the price.
  9. As long as everyone stays fit that is, injuries always happen sooner or later and that could really screw this midfield. Kamara injured -- Nakamba or Tim fills in as nr 6. Midfield three of McGinn, Ramsey and a rusty and miserable Nakamba, or miserable and inexperienced Tim. Ramsey or McGinn injured -- Nakamba or Tim fills in as nr 8. To have Nakamba (bless him) playing as our nr 8 would be a new low.
  10. McGinn was in good form for a while when Gerrard was new. That was probably when Gerrard decided McGinn was his man. Since then McGinn's form has tanked as we all know, don't believe he's had many good games during 2022.
  11. Maybe some prefer to sign for managers with a proven record of improving individual players and building strong teams. I know I would.
  12. From Daily Express: https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1662525/Liverpool-make-20m-Douglas-Luiz-bid-Steven-Gerrard-favour-Aston-Villa-transfer-news "Liverpool would need a favour from club legend Gerrard to get a deal done, given that Klopp has made it clear he does not have many funds available and that they will not pay over the odds for players. /.../ Luiz has been at Villa for three years, making 115 appearances and scoring six while assisting eight goals since a £15m switch from Manchester City. And for Liverpool to sign him and add an extra body in midfield, they may need Gerrard to allow him to leave for less than Villa's desired asking price." If Gerrard let Luiz go for less than market price to please his old club, he really would be diggning his own grave. Not just regarding his future at Villa, but as a person to take seriously in the business. I hope he's not that stupid.
  13. So a potential bidding war between Liverpool and Atletico for Douglas Luiz, while Gerrard is reluctant to even give him minutes because we have McGinn? Christ
  14. I’m sure his mother Véronique would get along with Craig Butler. Seriously, after reading about the wage demands Rabiot made to Man United I doubt he would be an option for us. He wanted to be among their top earners which would mean £350k+.
  15. I think we’ll probably get at least one point from those, partly because we sometimes perform a bit better when we play on the counter and because football is a strange old game. I’m sure that point will make some people rethink and SG could end up getting some more time. Until we lose 4-0 to Southampton.
  16. Fulham have done well so far tbh, drawing with Liverpool, beat Brighton and Brentford, only one loss. Looks like they could stay up.
  17. Imagine how good Dougie will become at tactical fouling under Simeone.
  18. Chelsea struggling against Southampton. Tuchel is the big 6 manager most likely to get into trouble before the WC. If he looks like being in danger Pochettino will probably set his sights on the Chelsea job.
  19. But Lange is a good fit for Purslow. If we had a powerful sporting director who was a heavyweight in the industry, Christian’s football opinions might not be listened to.
  20. I like how the instruction for JJ is simply to ”dominate”.
  21. Brilliant post. It seems to me the club has been hamstrung by arrogance (as you say) and vanity. I guess those traits are pretty much Christian Purslow’s personality. There seems to be an obsession with acting like a ”big club” in every instance. Right now it doesn’t even matter how great the main owners may be, or if we appointed Pochettino, as long as the club on the whole is still run as Purslow’s fantasy football project.
