  1. They're possibly taking more of a risk signing someone who hasn't played in England before. Feels like the risk/reward in this case could be worth it though.
  2. Ornstein (The Athletic) now says Bednarek to Villa is done.
  3. Don't forget Gallagher has the potential to attract young girls to VP now that Jack is gone
  4. Certainly wouldn't mind Gallagher but it would mean less variation. Gallagher isn't a technical passer like Luiz, more similar to McGinn and Ramsey.
  5. 30 is old for a winger living on pace. He peaked years ago (and his resale value is obviously zero)
  6. He may be shite but he's OUR shite now
  7. If Gerrard stays, the formation won't be changed and Dendonc will be back-up (McGinn or Ramsey won't be benched). If Gerrard leaves and we want to use a double pivot, Dendoncker could play alongside Kamara. But in a double pivot you usually want one break-up player and one deep playmaker, which is why Luiz and Kamara could have been good. Dendoncker isn't that typer of player.
  8. I think you’ll find fans are the same. Just look at Liverpool fans outrage over Douglas Luiz yesterday.
  9. Nowhere yet, that's true. Got carried away there.
  10. At least replacing the 5'9 Luiz with the 6'2 Dendoncker should please some.
  11. The Athletic claim Dendoncker to Villa is a done deal.
  12. He wasn't involved in football decisions at all at Chelsea apparently. Strictly a commercial role. Don't know if he appointed any people there.
  13. At Villa, Purslow has appointed Jesus, Smith, Lange and Gerrard. Also tried to apppoint Thierry Henry. At Liverpool, he appointed Roy Hodgson.
  14. Did he say that? Kamara has played as 6 and sometimes centre-back before, but not as 8 as far as I know.
  15. If Gerrard tells him to cover the full backs, that's what he will do. You expect him to refuse to follow instructions?
  16. We don't really know the reason why Villa didn't agree personal terms with him. That Sarr suddenly demanded more money is just an online rumour.
  17. Can people stop saying Dyche. Not even Purslow is mad enough to appoint a manager famous for physical long-ball football for a squad filled with smallish technical players. Watching Coutinho and Bailey try to win headers and chase second balls would be sad. "But he could adapt to having more money", maybe but he hasn't yet shown anything of the sort. Banking on Dyche being able to create a good team with our players would be the definition of a gamble.
  18. If it was true (which I still doubt) Lange could just as well feel undermined? He's the sporting director and is supposed to plan our transfers long-term, while Gerrard (allegedly) feels he should have control and be able to make signings without thinking about the future.
  19. Most likely just fantasies. But if there was any truth in it, it would actually paint Lange in a more positive light despite Villamole's attempt to do the opposite. It sounds here as if Gerrard wanted complete control over transfers and has been chasing 30-35 year old short term solutions, while Lange has stopped some of those shit ideas from becoming reality (Suarez being one).
  20. Beale wanted to try and be head coach. If he honestly believed Villa could qualify for Europe this season I think he would have stayed, but he didn’t. I guess we would have been somewhat more structured with him still here, but it’s for the best the SG experiment ends now.
  21. I would like us to have more passing skill and ball control in midfield. People in the thread you linked seem to have a view of Dendoncker similar to the one I have: that he’s a hard worker and useful workhorse, almost like a taller McGinn. ”With a Neves and Donk midfield pairing we are more stable and concede less, but for me there is little creative offensive play because Donk has so few touches but covers well and is a good 'spoiler'. But Neves thrives on playing with another passing midfield partner. Donk is not really that man.”
  22. It’s the fixation with only buying from within the league. Buying from rival clubs is notoriously difficult which is why few other clubs do it. But Villa refuse to look outside the Prem, so the best we can hope for are players who become surplus when our rivals upgrade.
