  1. Maybe not beat them but I believe we’ll perform better against Chelsea and maybe get a point, because that’s what we do these days. Defending against the top clubs is perfect for Gerrard’s Villa. Some will cheer afterwards. Then we’ll lose to Fulham, Brentford, Newcastle,
  2. Unless his family are Villa fans, won’t come here either then.
  3. Lopetegui turned Wolves down. Quite a surprise.
  4. It’s clear by now SG will be sacked, the only question is when. And how much shit will cling to Purslow’s suit when it’s finally done. And as for the next guy - who will decide? There are many good candidates out there but the people who will make the choice don’t fill me with confidence.
  5. I actually don't think they do. When asked by the media, they will obviously say nice things about him. But I don't believe Gerrard's created any strong bonds with the players. Quite a few would probably breathe a sigh of relief.
  6. You’re absolutely right we’re much better against the top teams. Then our lack of ideas and patterns doesn’t matter as much and we can concentrate on defending and playing on the counter. When we have to try and take control, our lack of coaching is exposed. Don’t agree about lack of shithouses though, Villa have become more or less experts at time wasting, tactical fouling and so on. We’re a quite ugly and dirty team these days.
  7. The trend is Villa perform better against the top teams, could be the same here. It's the midtable teams and the ones at the bottom we have the most problems with.
  8. Flick is the best manager in Europe.
  9. I'll judge the players when we've had Guardiola coaching them for a season. Until then I give them the benefit of the doubt.
  10. Forest had no interest in winning the ball, they sat back and didn't press at all. Handing the initiative over. Villa had basically unlimited possession up to 35 yards from goal.
  11. ”Write me a headline lads” I bet he worked hard on that ”headline” quote last night.
  12. I can see Wolves being really good with Lopetegui. Sadly.
  13. His personality bothers me, as I believe it affects his relation to the players and therefore the football.
  14. This Sky interview from January is short but sweet.
  15. Speaking of Gerrard's finances, he's earning crazy money from that co-operation with Hyundai and "Team Century". https://www.hyundai.com/worldwide/en/worldcup/team-century/steven-gerrard
  16. Before this season started, the Villa job was probably close to top 20 of manager jobs in Europe. It's a Premier League club, the league where everyone want to be currently for financial reasons, we have rich owners willing to spend and a decent squad to begin with. Lots of room for quick improvement. Negative: currently not in European competition. Pochettino's family lives in London which is part of the reason he was unhappy at PSG. He wants a job in the Prem and it doesn't look like any of the big 6 clubs will change manager soon. Villa could be a good stop-gap for him at least. But at this point things look worse. Few managers want to be fire fighters.
  17. Also feels like the longer we wait, the more mediocre the replacement will be. Not many big name managers would sign up for a relegation scrap halfway into the season.
  18. I've been thinking about this. Someone going into the manager job will obviously use things he's picked up during the playing career. Gerrard stayed at Liverpool his whole career and it wasn't exactly a modern and progressive club at the time. Houllier, Benitez, Hodgson and Dalglish managed Gerrard when he was 18-32 years. Maybe that's why he comes across as conservative, rigid and old-school.
  19. While I agree with you in general -- if Gerrard had done like Beale did and taken over a club like QPR, he would have crashed and burned. At a big Premier League club like Villa at least he's surrounded by dozens of assistants who can help with the practical things. Gerrard could never manage a club on his own, at least not at this point in his learning curve.
  20. Very much a confidence player. He didn’t really function at Barcelona or Bayern because he was under pressure there. When he first came here, he didn’t feel pressure at first but it’s there again now. I doubt he’ll spend 4 years here, maybe he will just quit.
  21. Gerrard discussing with Ashley Preece at the post game presser. ”Preece, did ya see I played that little kid you were going on about! Did ya? He wasn’t even close to scoring was he! Did ya see that!”
  22. He was kept away from the football things at Chelsea, which worked fine. At Villa he’s the chief exec and there’s no-one to hold him back.
