  1. Not saying Smith was a failure, but it’s one out of four. With Suso and Lange, I just point at our player recruitment since Purslow arrived as evidence. Not good enough in relation to money spent.
  2. It could be a happy dressing room, but not until the players who signed on for something very different have left and been replaced.
  3. He could also end up struggling with the other decision makers at the club.
  4. It’s that siege mentality he always creates, us against the world. He’s made a lucrative career out of that.
  5. Maybe the ideal time to make that statement was when SG was appointed. Now we’re in a less fortunate place with an increased wage bill and it’s possible we can’t spend as much going forward.
  6. Isn’t a safe pair of hands almost a guarantee for relegation these days?
  7. This is great. We’ve thrown money around under Gerrard — so when it’s time to find someone to clear up his mess, we have to look in League Two for financial reasons.
  8. I’d be fine with Amorim I suppose, but the spanish and portuguese leagues are quite different from the Prem with the tempo being one big difference. Which is why I’d liked to see some candidates from the Bundesliga.
  9. Smith, Suso, Lange, Gerrard, that’s 4. Why are people acting like sporting directors aren’t important appointments?
  10. You’re really a glass half full type of person aren’t you? Wish I was as optimistic. What does make me a bit happier are the rumours about Sawiris taking more things into his own hands.
  11. He’s appointed two sporting directors too. Considering the state of our squad relative to the wage bill, there should be some focus on those appointments as well.
  12. A big name would make the fanbase happy, and feelgood is obviously a plus, but I hope they look a bit deeper than that. We need someone who is a good fit with regards to playing style, and someone with experience and some success from managing in a top league and ideally in UCL. And also someone who is unlikely to leave within 6 months if Real Madrid calls - I know some say that’s nothing to worry about, but I do worry another chaotic situation like this happening too soon could be a disaster.
  13. Imagine MacPhee surviving this. We get Emery or Tuchel in, but MacPhee still stands there dictating long throws.
  14. If we get one of those modern possession style managers, his first call could be to replace Martinez for not being good enough with his feet. (So we end up playing Bertie Traore in goal)
  15. I also think about ”Allo allo” every time I hear of Hansi! Hell of a manager too.
  16. The position of sporting director/DoF usually means being responsible for the football as a whole, including managers. The idea is for the SD/DoF to be a football expert and ideally also an industry heavyweight, like Paratici or Edu. Lange feels lightweight, which begs the question why Purslow appointed him.
  17. Actually yes. Our squad isn’t suited to Dycheball (and I don’t buy the idea that Dyche really wants to play differently). Coutinho, Bailey and Buendia would struggle to win headers and fight for second balls. The players would want to leave. Relegation very possible, unless Dyche sign some big strong lads in January.
  18. Purslow appointed Lange. It’s becoming a habit of Purslow’s to appoint people and sack them shortly after.
  19. Any potential new manager will obviously do some research about the owners, the board and the ceo. Just hope they don’t spend too much time googling Purslow.
  20. Matt Law on Twitter questioning other people at the club beside Gerrard, without mentioning Purslow and Lange by name. Things are heating up.
  21. In hindsight, the biggest red flag should have been Gerrard’s dependency on an assistant doing all the work for him. It was there for all to see, he even talked about it at length in interviews, how absolutely crucial his assistant was. Gerrard has never been a manager. And never will be.
  22. We seem to have three different modes under Gerrard. 1) play bottom 5 club, dominate possession but create nothing, draw 2) play big 6 club, counter attack and look okay but still lose 3) play midtable club, get battered, lose
  23. Of course we have, but all those players out there have played far, far better before. You can’t get around that.
  24. Things like that prove that pundits don’t actually watch us play often. They wouldn’t get away with just saying things out of the blue about clubs like Liverpool or Spurs.
