I still think he's a decent and talented player, he tries the right things and usually works himself into a sweat. But he looks burnt out, like the league's oldest 30-year-old. I get secondary cramps and lactic acid build up just watching him from a distance.
They won't rule themselves out publicly, why would they? A couple of credible reporters (Ornstein, Law) have written Pochettino was approached and said no, that's enough for me.
The top clubs appoint managers without Prem experience all the time. Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel, Conte, Mourinho, all were appointed by top clubs in the Prem without having worked in England before. Why can they do it?
Amorim's lack of experience is a worry, no doubt. Not so much the fact he hasn't worked in England yet, more that he's only been a manager for 3 years. On the plus side, at least he's worked in a relatively big league -- even if Portugal's league is only 6th in Europe it's still reasonably big. Smith had never worked in a big league before VIlla, nor had Gerrard.
With our current position and the general gloom surrounding we may end up having to choose between inexperienced, or tried and found not that good.
Emery is the only one I see now who is both experienced, proven to be really good and hasn't turned us down yet.
Most leagues only have 2 or 3 candidates, but Italy? Come on. Milan won last season, Inter the season before. Juventus are always candidates. Napoli are currently frontrunners and favourites. Atalanta are outsiders. Roma and even Udinese will challenge for the European places.
Thomas Frank was commenting on Villa's spending in January:
"Frank, who has been at the helm since replacing former Villa boss Dean Smith in 2018, told Sky Sports: "In a way, it shouldn’t be possible that we are above Villa, the amount of money they have spent on their team the last three years."

It's annoying how much it matters where we are in the table today. Media report about us currently being in a relegation battle and managers obviously listen to that.
With only 2 more points we could have been 13th instead. Midtable and not a word would have been written about relegation battles.
Purslow is involved in everything at the club, from stadium expansions to player recruitment and picking managers. A lot have been good, but some also less good. We have the 7th highest wage bill but probably not the 7th best squad. Things have gone wrong there.
As CEO, you’re supposed to appoint people you trust. You can’t keep blaming and sacking those below you in the organization.
The only thing I know about Danks is that when he came in under Smith, we got worse. Let’s hope he has great ideas but hasn’t been able to prove himself yet.
People say that about Dyche, imagine if he had more money etc. He hasn’t shown any signs of wanting his team to play differently, so my guess is Dyche ball is what he likes.
His style can be pretty successful, but wouldn’t suit our current squad.
The squad may be better, but with a bigger wage bill it’s more difficult to make expensive changes. Ings, Digne, Coutinho and Carlos will stay around until their contracts expire.
You don’t think the chief exec is involved when a sporting director is appointed? Purslow runs the club. Maybe a janitor could be hired without Purslow being involved, but not a sporting director.
