  1. I’m happy if we get two world class players: first Pau Torres, and then end Jaden Philogene’s loan.
  2. Enough talking, bring the boy home. We all know he’s **** brilliant.
  3. If the main owners feel generous, Purslow will be allowed to slowly exit the club. If not, he could find himself in trouble.
  4. Early reports were about him getting 6m per year, 1m more than SG. Now it’s apparently 25m net for 4,5 years which is more. It’s about 5.5m per year but after taxes, which is roughly 11m before taxes. Football wages in Spain are often quoted net which adds to the confusion. With 11m per year Emery will be in the top 5 of managers in the league. Behind Pep, Klopp, Conte and Potter but similar to Arteta and Ten Hag, and ahead of Rodgers and Hasenhuttl.
  5. I’ve been surprised too, JPB to me has looked the possibly biggest academy talent of all but the clock is ticking and he’s not exactly storming forward. Still hoping though.
  6. Last time we played Spurs we did everything wrong tactically, came at them and pressed high which suited Conte perfectly. Hopefully Emery tries something different.
  7. Emery’s new manager bounce will be cut in half (or cut short) by the World Cup and takes place against an improved Man U, Brighton, Liverpool and Spurs. But why not, even better to surprise against a couple of big clubs.
  8. Media loves to report when there’s a story, good or bad. Man U being a disaster is interesting, Brighton being a success under Potter is interesting. Villa have just been mediocre for a long time and not interesting at all, but Emery arriving is a twist. If he is successful, there will be lots of talk about how he saved Villa. If he isn’t, there will be focus on how the owners for years have spent money like drunken sailors without anything to show for it.
  9. Probably a bit to soon, but I’m convinced he’ll be a really good one later on.
  10. Very little is still needed to climb the table. The worrying thing is we’ve wasted many of the more winnable games, and are up against some difficult ones now.
  11. You’re right about the board wanting to ”act big” and going all-in on whatever strategy someone says they should have this month. But, a lot of clubs are like that. Even Newcastle. They tried to appoint Emery and when he said no, turned to the very different Howe - and it worked.
  12. A concussion sub is on top of the other 5, and I believe both teams get an extra.
  13. Very competitive, Leeds just beat Liverpool too. Newcastle have spent a lot of money, but most of their improvement is coaching and hard work as well. Do the right things and don’t jump on a new strategy as soon as things get difficult.
  14. I think culture building is what Howe is all about, he’s no football philosopher or tactical genius but has some modern and very effective ideas about building a team and making people enjoy working. I’m sure he’d be successful in the business world as well.
  15. Harsh to criticize Danks, but adjusting to things like that is something a regular manager would have done.
  16. Maybe bring Targett back, he doesn’t seem to be good enough for Howe anymore.
  17. They will get better over time but they will also run into trouble at some point. All clubs do. The core of their team is 8-10 fairly average players playing the best football of their lives, that won’t last forever.
  18. We haven’t really seen much of Carlos attitude yet - not playing in games like this really benefits your reputation. I was almost starting to miss McGinn today, that’s how depressing it was.
  19. Sigh. The team needs a leader and Danks, nice bloke as he surely is, isn’t a leader. Some really bad defending today and Ashley Young had a nightmare, not only with the pen. Worrying to see Buendia so poor. I’m sure Emery will improve them. The problem is it’ll take time.
  20. The general opinion about Newcastle has shifted so fast. When we last played them in February, also at St James' Park, Villa were the clear favourites. Villa also dominated the whole game while Newcastle sat back and defended, they managed to win 1-0. They had pretty much the same players as now: Burn, Trippier, Shelvey, Willock, Joelinton, ASM. Since then they've added Bruno G who is obviously great. But most of all they've improved on an individual level and their confidence is sky high. Compared player by player, they're really not that good.
  21. I’m sure Strasbourg will chip in at least 5k per week, they have EU money there.
  22. Lucky he isn’t that young then… It will likely take a lot of time until he’s back to full fitness. He also has to get used to the league and the tempo, he didn’t really have time to do that before the injury.
