  1. Articles like that will lead to an avalanche of calls from agents. "I read you're a bit desperate? Well I have just the player for you ..."
  2. Newcastle are able to sign players at a higher level because everyone is convinced they’ll be a UCL club within 1-2 years. Still, at least in theory they have to follow the same FFP rules and can’t spend much more than us - the clubs have similar revenue levels. Quite a few PL clubs by now have owners who could and would spend more, if FFP didn’t prevent it.
  3. Maybe that’s why Emery likes a lot of 29 year old journeymen, he’s still tuned to the Villarreal budget and doesn’t even dare to think about 20m+ players.
  4. Weston McKennie is clearly a stupid word removed. When it was reported about Villa being interested, he wanted a ”top club” instead. Now, he’s happy to sign for Leeds.
  5. Like I predicted, Emi ended up in the top 40 of Guardian's list of the 100 best footballers in the world. He is at 20. Not bad. https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2023/jan/24/the-100-best-male-footballers-in-the-world-2022 "In emulating Ubaldo Fillol and Nery Pumpido as Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeepers, Martínez wrote himself into legend. Neither of those predecessors were required to be the decisive actor in penalty shootouts, as Martínez was against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals and then again in the final itself. His gamesmanship in those pressure situations won him cult status but he also made a crucial, match-winning contribution in open play when France’s Randal Kolo Muani seemed set to score in the last minute of extra time. The one-time Rotherham and Oxford loanee with a London tinge to his accent has come a long way."
  6. 100k per week would be nowhere near enough for Ziyech, apparently. He was in discussions with AC Milan a few weeks ago and demanded 7-8m euros per year net, which is around £240k per week gross. Milan didn’t offer nearly enough so no deal then. https://milanreports.com/2022/12/21/zitech-big-salary-ac-milan-demands/ Avoid him please.
  7. Didn’t we sign Bednarek and Donk on deadline day? Maybe we can have similar luck again. Who are the current bench warmers at the relegation sides?
  8. I actually like Sancho, believe there still is a great player there. Him being paid £350k per week could be an issue tho.
  9. I know. But after all we have a cup mastermind in the dugout now, and it’s probably easier to navigate 6 opponents in the FA cup, and then next year get out of the group plus win 4 knockout rounds in the Europa, than finish top 4 in the Prem over 38 games.
  10. Our best chance of playing in the UCL is probably to win the next FA cup, then Europa league. Finishing top 4 is bloody difficult.
  11. That pass with the outside of his foot would have been pass of the year if Cancelo made it.
  12. What PL side would sign Nakamba? Or Chambers really. Feels like they’re Championship level, the usual problem is that their wages may not be.
  13. At last people have stopped arguing he should play as our DM, since he maybe did well there on loan for Fulham when they were relegated four years ago.
  14. Arsenal games have been much about Emi lately with their fans constantly booing him and so on. Now with Emery in charge, those games could become even more personal.
  15. I have a feeling under Emery we will often surprise against the top clubs. So far there’s not been that many signs of us disappointing against lesser sides (except Stevenage obviously), but let’s think of Leicester as a big club and beat them 4-0.
  16. The Guardian are doing their annual ”Top 100 Footballers in the World” this week. From the entries so far the list looks very World Cup-centric, so I bet our Emi will be in the top 40.
  17. Only saw this now, simple but brilliant. Maybe adjust to ”Dougie Louie Louie Louie?
  18. Ziyech could be the most overrated attacking player Chelsea have, and they have plenty. Scores a worldie per season and is more or less useless between those. Has a grand total of 6 goals and 7 assists in his 2,5 years at Chelsea. He does fit into our recent strategy of signing 30-year olds on massive wages though.
  19. Which is a rather harsh thing to say considering the fact we have exactly 1 winger. UE really doesn’t rate Danjuma.
  20. When he finally arrives in the box the ball is just a flat pig’s bladder.
  21. He’ll have to, when we’re playing a high line the keeper must have his default position further up the pitch and also be ready to sweep. Really nice to see him do it so well.
  22. He’ll most likely improve after only being in the country for a week, but he really had a hard time defensively in the second half today. I know Digne isn’t popular these days but for me he could still be first choice. Oh well, we’ll see.
  23. Ollie is far above average if we’re talking overall contribution. Whenever a high ball is lumped towards him and he’s alone with two opposition players climbing over him, I bet on him to come away with the ball most times. His finishing obviously isn’t good enough but we’d be stupid to get rid, get a good finisher to play off him.
