  1. This shows how badly we need new centre-backs. In plural.
  2. Gnonto is irritating but very good, there’s no denying it.
  3. Cash is currently out of form and probably feeling a bit insecure in terms of what Emery is asking of him, but normally he’s a good player (and with a brilliant attitude).
  4. According to Capology, Nakamba is now comfortably Luton’s highest earner. Make us proud, Marv!
  5. He’s told to hold back so not that surprising. It’s really made him worse overall.
  6. Booing at halftime is the big new trend this season and not only at Villa. Going back just one year it was still rare, but now people have heard it happen on TV a lot and do it without thinking. If the home team is behind at halftime, there will often be booing. At the end of last season, it was pitch invasions instead. People saw it happening at a lot of games on TV and wanted to try.
  7. When Gerrard was still here Purslow made lots of comments on future transfers, would we make more signings this window and so on. He was also travelling Europe with Gerrard and Lange, checking out players in Marseille and whatnot.
  8. Roberto Olabe. It was reported in spanish media first, then here, that Emery had offered him the job as Villa’s sporting director but he preferred to stay in Spain and said no. I’m still wondering what Lange thought about those reports. The manager trying to replace you is bad enough, the whole thing leaking out and everyone knowing about it must be worse.
  9. It'll probably be Corberan. If not him, that Postegocluguc bloke at Celtic.
  10. Exactly. We had a nice run of results against Arsenal a while ago but those days are sadly gone.
  11. Yeah feel most likely. There are usually some surprises in the second half of the season though, one or two teams could lose form completely while some other really gets going.
  12. The worst thing is we have so many bogey teams. The league is full of them.
  13. Interesting relagation battle this. Usually at least one or two teams are reliably terrible but this season, no team is that bad really which means some decent sides will go down. Bournemouth could be the worst but they made a couple of promising signings in January. Saints are poor but still not that bad. Don’t think Wolves, West Ham, Leicester or Everton will go down.
  14. If we manage to finish 13th this season, maybe we can do a slight rebuild in the summer and get 10th next season. Keep hope alive.
  15. Soon you’ll demand goalkeepers who keep goals and midfielders who midf.
  16. I have this nagging feeling we’ll want to change LB again soon.
  17. Not sure those stats are that bad, attacking players get dispossessed more than others. For the league as a whole some top players got dispossessed a lot this season:
  18. It is very sensible since we were probably paying a big part of his wages in Turkey anyway, better to have him here. I’m not counting on Bert staying fit and being a reliable option this season, but if so that’s great.
  19. Our attacking players are a fairly likeable bunch but not so much for what they do on the pitch. This thread has reminded me of some lousy signings. Traore was pretty good overall in his first season at Villa (50% crap 50% fine, and scored goals). But a lot of time has passed since then. When was Bert’s last good game, two years ago? Bringing him back proves that we don’t have many attacking options right now, it’s very much taking a punt and hoping for the best. At least we know he has talent somewhere in there.
  20. Looking at recent results we should keep climbing. But we've really been quite lucky in some games and very much saved by Emi. I'd be happy if we average 1.5 points per game for the rest of the season which would give us 55 points. 10th place or thereabouts.
